Since they are so small I will have to reorder soon, but for the variety of colors, it's worth it to me. Just so you could see the pigment, I drew hello with a smiley face. You don't get those kind of colors from regular chalk! Also, you will use them quickly if working on a chalk board because you have to press hard and go over a spot more than once for good coverage. Again, that doesn't bother me either, but you will end up with a pile of chalk (see picture).
The only con is that they are short. But you don't need to apply a lot with these to get the rich tones you may be looking for.
These are high-quality and the company shipped them quickly. None were broken, HOWEVER- These are pastels, and pastels do tend to break! Be warned about that. Pastels are Meant to be broken so just hang onto the smaller pieces and use them for finer detail work. I left mine in the original box, but you might want to put them in your own for sorting with another set.
One more thing- I had to re-arrange mine when I got them (color, value, warmth) because they seemed to be just lumped in by color, (ie all blues on one row, no order to value or warmth).
Get these for plein-air work and studio.
Great Value for the money!
I wanted really bright colors, and these are! And the neons in this set were a bonus! At the same time, I also ordered the Reese set of 32 half sticks for $12.99. The colors in that set are more subtle--not nearly as vivid and saturated as these (see my photos). Plus, this Mungyo set has twice the number of colors for less $$.
I also tried blending these with water, q-tips, fingers, daubers, and tissue. All worked really well! The Mungyo's are also less fragile than the Reese ones.
My only complaint is with Jerry's, because even with a Prime account, these take a long time to arrive. Check and make sure that they will arrive when you need them before paying extra for premium shipping, as a student of mine had problems.
I did notice that they don't have a nice light pink, but I didn't end up needing it for this particular piece. I didn't realize it when I bought them, but at the top of all of the colors, the set also includes two "firmer" pastels--a black one and a white one. I was very satisfied and so glad that I went with Mungyo for my first pastel set. My art teacher is truly amazing and really knows her stuff. It was a great recommendation for me and I highly recommend this set if you are wanting to test out pastels without breaking the bank!
