I came upon this book after reading the Wonky Inn and Pound Dog series. This was so different from her cozy mysteries that I was pleasantly surprised. The Municipality of Lost Souls was like a breath of fresh air. I spent my early 20s and 30s devouring many a great horror and psychological thriller and this was right up there with the quality of early Stephen King novels. The character development was intriguing and left you to try to figure out the events that led up to this point. I also enjoyed the novels Beyond the Veil and Crone for different reasons but I believe that this one was far superior to the other two. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a psychological thriller, it kept my interest from it's beginning to it's very end!

That was one of the worst endings I've read in a long time. You spend the entire book creating these two horrible villains, Pyle and Greeves, and then instead of making them pay, they both just casually walk away? Did you forget to charge your laptop or something? Why didn't you write an ending? The story just stopped. I thought maybe the second book was a continuation, but it appears not. I really liked the book but the ending ruined it. Lame and lazy writing.

Whatever your preferred reading genre, you're sure to find something to be fascinated by The Municipality of Lost Souls, by the wonderful Jeannie Wycherley.
A family epic spanning four generations, check!
A cursed village haunted by zombie-like, drowned sailors and their women, check!
A rich landowner who hides a shameful secret, and who may (or may not), want a wife, check!
A corrupt and greedy Mayor who doesn't choose his associates very well, check!
Witches, psychics, seers, & 'ghost conjurors', unhappy spirits and visits from the dead, check!
Shipwrecks both accidental and deliberately caused, check!

You see what I mean? Just when you thought things couldn't get any more tragic or doomed, up comes another twist in this fantastic supernatural murder-mystery-thriller that will blow your mind!

I cannot recommend this, (& all Jeannie Wycherley's excellent books) highly enough..
As for Covid-19 fears or Lockdown Blues, you won't think of them at all - as The Municipality of Lost Souls is that amazing and unpredictable - get your copy today!

Awesome Horror Story !!!!!

This is book number two in this awesome series that I have read and I can not wait to see what this author will write about next. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading about fantasy, mysteries and horror.

Gothic style victorian mystery story

Prior to reading The Municipality of Lost Souls, I'd primarily ready Jeannie Wycherley's more comedic, lighter paranormal mysteries. This book has a very different tone, more gothic in style. However, Ms. Wycherley's terrific world building and character development skills are definitely on display as much in this book as in her lighter stories. This is a period piece, set in Victorian England. It is very atmospheric and darker in tone and mood. The book is intended to be the start to a new series, or at least a two part story as this book ends on a cliffhanger. I'm not a fan of cliffhangers as a rule; however, I am a fan of Ms. Wycherley's writing and trust her to make the conclusion to this particular cliffhanger worth the wait.

Enjoyed this book immensely. I found the ‘hero’s’ very likeable and the ‘villains’ vile!
I read this in a day (awake until the early hours to finish it). Descriptions of the town made me feel as though as I was there, watching the story unfold, feeling the chill of a stormy night, watching the horror of a ship ‘wrecking’ and being destroyed by the elements. Differences in the class system shown through the hard lives and the losses of those battling to make a living in a fishing town and the expectations of women from different social standings are touched upon but not overly so. Definitely one to read on a rainy afternoon (lots in England!).
