We have an annual tradition of watching the Muppet Christmas Carol and thought we would upgrade our DVD copy to the HD version. What a treat until we saw they cut the song "When Love is Gone". We did not realize Disney had cut this scene, and what a loss to the overall story development. It drives home the impact of the emotional loss of Scrooge and then finds resolution in the song "Love is Found" at the end of the movie. At least the song is included in the bonus material, but it definitely diminishes the story line and emotional connection with Scrooge by removing it from it's place in the scene. It's inclusion would also correspondingly increase the joy and emotional celebration of Scrooge's eventual reformation.

With that in mind, we still enjoyed watching it and found a good deal of laughter in the bonus material as well as seeing the behind the scenes interviews.

In my opinion, this is the best version of a Christmas Carol that is out there! This never seems to be available on the regular cable channels to view for free. So every year, we paid to rent it through our cable options. And finally, I just decided to buy the DVD --- a smart decision. The DVD quality is terrific, and this anniversary edition contains BOTH the extended version (with Belle's solo signing scene) and the shorter theatrical version. The cast is a combination of muppets and humans, and flows brilliantly. It is a version of the classic tale that can be enjoyed by all ages, even the very young and very old. Enjoy!
