The quality of this DVD is wonderful and of course, the movie is pretty good itself. Can you believe that I have a granddaughter (now 11) that does not like the Muppets? Strange girl, indeed! I am now 70 and I still love them, at least these original ones as I haven't seen any of the newer movies yet, but my daughter of which, she is the mother of my strange granddaughter, tells me that they are very funny. The extras on this DVD are the same as the original VHS, which wasn't good in the first place. Some of the songs are miserably slow, which takes down the action, but, this is normal with the Muppets and some might even like them. Look for price and shipping as some of the sellers are way off. +JMJ+

Movie was clean and in excellent condition. Shipper had it in my hands before payment cleared. This was the first Muppet movie. Kermit leaves the swamp to go to Hollywood to become a star. Along the way he meets the other characters we have grown to love. It is mayhem and mishap all along the way. The songs are great. Kids and adults find themselves tapping their toes to the tunes. They all make it to Hollywood to star in their own movie. This is an all time favorite.

My only complaint is that instead of having the "screen tests" that I have on the VHS copy of this movie, they have a "featured interview" with Pepe the Crawfish. (The "screen tests" are AMAZING. You can find them on YouTube. Basically, it's Jim Henson and Frank Oz screwing around improvising scenes with Kermit & Fozzie, Kermit & Miss Piggy, and Sweetums all over the countryside. A much better feature in my opinion that those offered here.)

The Muppet series kicked off with the Mupppt Movie, which gaves you a background on just how the Muppets met. This is the only one that is a movie within a movie. This was the first of only 3 that the late Jim Henson worked on, the last being The Muppets Take Manhattan, along with some Muppet specials. The Muppet perfomers are Jim Henson, Frank Oz, Jerry Nelson, Richard Hunt, Dave Goelz. Guest co-stars, and people that make cameos are Charles Durning, Austin Pendleton, Scott Walker, Mel Brooks, James Coburn, Steve Martin, and Bob Hope. Most of the guest stars are dead today, and there are some many people in here making cameos, and it will take awhile, maybe not to long to name all of them, and there must be more in here, then of any of the other movies. The movie open with the Muppets, heading to a special screening of thier movie "The Muppet Movie". Thier movie begins, or the 2nd movie begins when we meet Kermit the Frog, singing Rainbow Conncection, and then a meeting with a Hollwood agent, that thinks he will be a good chance for a part, so Kermit begins his trip to Hollywood, where steps off at a club, where he meets Fozzie Bear, who is filling in for dancing sisters, who does stand up comedy, Fozzie join Kermit, on the trip to Hollyowod, in which Kermit is spotted by owner of a franschise named Doc Hoppers, and his name is well Doc Hopper (Charles Durning), and his assistant Max (Austin Pendleton) who want him for a commerical, and of course Kermit doesn't want to do it, and duiring the long curse of the trip, they keep meetting up with them. Just wait until you see the scene where they come to a fork in the road, and it is an actual fork in the road. Sesame Streets' very own Big Bird (Carroll Spinney) has a cameo early on in the trip, and he is making a trip to New York to try to break into public telvelsion, what do they think Sesame Street is? If you have never seen any of the muppet movies, this one might be a good start, in fgact sometimes it is best to see the orginal first, so you know just what to expect (or pretty know to) expect to find of the franchise of the movies. Or if you like any of the people making cameos, that will also be a reason to see this first one, and then just follow on in the series.

My kids sang the songs from the movie for weeks, and of course, when it was available on video (VHS), I had to go out and buy it. I mean, who doesn't love corny, obvious humor?! Anyone who knows and loves the Muppets should own this movie. Heck, even if you've been living under a rock and don't know who they are, you should own this movie! :-)

Jim Henson wows with his fantastic puppeteering. Watch the opening scene of Kermit in the swamp, it is a marvel of engineering. Watch this with your family, and you are sure to have a favorite for family movie night.
