"This is the first book I've read by Dianne Harman, and I am Very happy that I did so ! ;) The story of Sheriff Mike and his new wife Kelly (plus the two dogs, of course) , is such a great read and quite honestly I look forward to getting the rest of the books in this series. While I don't remember ever doing a book review here before, I just had to say how happy I am with my purchase ;) Murder in Calico Gold is a book that I am quite happy to recommend, and I love the fact that while it is # 6 in the series it easily stands alone as well.. I know that most reviews on Amazon seem to include the description of the books from the book page, but I don't think anyone that is checking reviews will not have already read those, or maybe I'm lazy, so decided not to do that. Oh, and the recipes included are great as well !!! Enjoy."

Kelly and Sheriff Mike decide to visit his elderly Aunt Agnes in Calico Gold, California after she needs his help and knowledge. As the two of them with their dogs set off to visit her as Mike remembers fondly of his childhood visit to his aunt’s farm that she inherited from his grandparents.
On arrival his aunt tells him that she has made him the sole inheritor of the ranch and land. That she received threatened letters and they were going to report it the next morning but before that could happened she is found murdered the next morning.
While Mike appears as the prime inspect due to his new inheritance, the other suspects includes a real estate developer who wanted her property for a golf course, a crooked judge, the neighboring cattle ranch who is suffering from water shortage due to drought and her cutting off the dam on her property, a Vietnam veteran who she let live in a shack but was planning to evict him and a nephew who thinks he should inherit the property since his mother was shun by the family.
Can they find the killer before Mike becomes a victim as people want the land? This is another winner in book #6 of the series as we get to learn more of Kelly’s daughter and her family.
It also has some good recipes. I'll try some of them.
Kelly & her husband, Sheriff Mike go to visit his Aunt Agnes in Calico Gold. He described her as: "quite opinionated & a real spitfire. She didn't mince words, & everyone knew exactly how she felt about a subject....She was tall & had a ramrod straight posture. She wore glasses that were attached to a necklace so she wouldn't lose them. She always wore pants. I guess that was because she rode so much & was out on the ranch with animals almost every day. I remember my mother kidding her about it & saying she didn't have a feminine bone in her body, & she should have been a man."
She had lots of friends, but some enemies as well. She was killed the night after Kelly & Mike found out she was leaving the property to him. He became a suspect. Their job is to clear his name.
It's a good book & I recommend reading it. It's a stand alone even if it's Book 6 in the series.
Murder in Calico Gold: A Cedar Bay Cozy Mystery (Cedar Bay Cozy Mystery Series Book 6)
The day after arriving Aunt Agnes is murdered and Mike is the number 1 suspect, especially when the local Sheriff leans Mike is the sole beneficiary to this large estate.
Enter the suspects, neighbor needing water, a Vietnam vet, a cousin Mike didn’t know he had and an investor who wants to buy the Robertson Ranch and turn it into a resort/golf course.
Kelly, Mike, Rebel and Lady must work to solve the murder; I liked Kelly calling her daughter and son-in-law for help and their prompt arrival at the ranch.
Book 6 holds your interest as book 1 did…continue writing this great story looking forward to book 7.
