A well written Christian mystery set in the quaint village of Hum harbor , Nova Scotia.
Gailynn grew up in this quaint little town and she thinks she knows all about everyone in town. When doc gets murdered does she really know everyone as well as she thinks?
Her best friend is supposed to take over the practice, but doc sells the practice to someone else. Gailynn is determined to find out who murdered doc. Will anyone take her seriously?
Will God lead her to the clues to solve this mystery when she is convinced that no one takes the murder seriously? This one will keep you guessing until the very end. You will not believe who turns out to be the murder! I am looking forward to the next book in this series.

A certified medical receptionist by day, and a sea glass jewelry designer by evenings and weekends, Gailynn MacDonald, is trolling the Nova Scotia shores of little Hum Harbour, when she comes upon the beached cabin cruiser of her former boss, Doc Campbell. Gailynn also finds her boss, dead.

Being a large town of 363 persons, Gailynn rushes to the police department to find her brother, Andrew. At the scene of death (is it a murder or accident?) a silver earring with violet sea glass is found. Gailynn knows only three sets were made like that.

Gailynn looks to her new boss, Geoff Grant to aid her in investigating. Gailynn's sense of Christian justice is not shared by everyone and increasingly her own life becomes in jeopardy.

This was a good debut for a new likable series. The characters were interesting and you felt that you understood the native reticence. I look forward to the next book in the 'Seaglass mysteries.'

The plot itself was interesting. I would have enjoyed the book more, if there had not been so many references to God and religion. I had no knowledge, prior to reading the book, that this was considered a christian mystery. If I had, I probably would not have purchased the book.

This is a good read, giving insight into small town Canada. How well do you know your neighbours, friends and relatives? This book makes you wonder who you can trust, while still showing that trust is possible.

What an incredibly audacious book - it is a mystery of mysteries. You have irritating (what people think Gai is with all her asking of questions and research she is doing to find the murderer), linear (the way the towns people think except for Gai), memorable (Doc was very memorable to everyone in town - mostly bad memories with many people left behind as suspects because of it - including Gai's own family), outgoing (Gai has an outgoing personality with her own business of making jewelry, working as a medical billing person and an amateur detective and most of all lover of all HOLY - GOD), will Gai be able to fight through the towns secrets to find out who killed her old boss? Will something happen with her and her old bosses replacement? ya'll this book is packed and I do mean packed full of nucks and cranys of information - like the town - the weather - the details are exquisite, so worth your time. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review from NetGalley.

Murder in Hum Harbor by Jayne E. Self is an intriguing mystery.
Jewelry crafter, Gailynn MacDonald is a fun character and I enjoyed reading about her life in Hum Harbor.
When not so loved resident Doc Campbell is found on his boat, dead, it sets off an investigation that opens a Pandora's box full of lies, deceit and hatred.

Gai can't help but believe Doc was murdered and she sets off to discover the truth.
Not everyone in the charming town of Hum Harbor appreciates Gai sticking her nose in their business, especially her brother Sam, who along with his wife, have suffered their own personal heartache at the hands of Doc.

When Gai begins asking too many questions, she puts herself in jeopardy, willing to risk everything too find peace for those who hurt.

The author wrote a well told tale filled with intrigue and mystery. I am looking forward to reading more by this extremely talented author.

Christian mystery set in Nova Scotia. Gailynn MacDonald grew up in this small quaint village, where everyone knows your business or do they? Gailynn is a certified medical receptionist, jewelry designer and part-time sleuth. While out looking for sea glass, Gailynn stumbles across her former boss, Doc Campbell – dead, she heads to the police to advise her brother Andrew. Gailynn’s questions and sleuthing is hurting people’s lives, including her own family. Will she solve the death of Doc? God will see to it.

For the first in a series, this book was very fresh. Characters were not too complex and descriptions of surroundings draw the reader in. Look forward to the next installment!

I've found a new favorite cozy mystery series!

I've found a new favorite cozy mystery! I've only read this first one but if the next is as good - wow! I got this book during a free offer, figuring with a name like Hum Harbour it was worth a try. I loved it! I admit to suspecting who the murderer was early on but that didn't take away from the enjoyment - or even detract from the fun of watching Gailynn figure it all out. Even though part of me kept saying that person must be the one the other part of me kept saying, "no, it can't be." There were clues all over the place, most of them leading in the wrong direction which made the story even better. The romance between Gailynn and Geoff is sweet and promising, but this isn't a romance novel. I could picture this little town as I read. Very well written and I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys cozy mysteries. I only see 2 books by this author on Amazon - I hope she's writing more!
