The book also offers a touch of paranormal, which always draws me in...but it's delivered in just the right amount...not heavy handed, or over the top, just enough to add that extra dash of intrigue.
Craig also gives us her own style of romance, sweet, but not syrupy...and with just enough heat, to remind us that, yes ma'am, good girls do have morals, but what qualifies us as good, doesn't necessarily mean "never ever" until after the ring goes on. Craig always strikes just the right balance with this, bringing us the values of this era :) So, drift in, have a read...put your feet up, and sit a spell...you're going to feel right at home :)
One thing I love about reading Christie's books is that it never disappoints me. I honestly think she's one of the best authors when it comes to storylines that deal with romance, suspense, and comedy. She's always keeping me on my toes, and this book was no different!
Cali McKay is grieving over the loss of her mother. She's not going crazy, but she's pretty sure her mother is talking to her in her dreams. And the ironic part is every advice that her mother gives to Cali, it's keeping Cali safe or actually happens. She just wants to go on with her life. Why won't her crazy ex-boyfriend, Stan, leave her alone? And why is Detective Brit Lowell constantly showing up on her doorstep?
Brit's partner just got murdered. He's upset and wants to find the perpetrator. When Brit gets assigned to Cali's case, this isn't just a normal case for him. Sure, Cali and him got off on the wrong foot when they first met, but Brit wants to keep her safe and alive. And yes, he might have some feelings for her too.
Will Brit be able to keep Cali safe from her ex-boyfriend? Why does Stan really want the bracelet back? Who is murdering Brit's fellow officers? Will Cali's mom finish her unfinished business and crossover to the other side? Can Cali and Brit overcome the many obstacles that stand in their way?
"Murder, Mayhem, and Mama" was such a wonderful story to read! You will not want to put this book down!
Although I liked this book, the only thing I didn't like was the usual underestimation of 'killer on the loose, woman disregards her own safety because she wants 'control' of her life again. I'm fairly sure that doing so causes the killer to be caught faster, but to be honest, as independent a woman as I am, if someone said I should do something for my safety, I'd be more liable to listen. Albeit, the only danger the lady seems to be in is from her idiotic ex, it's still surprising when the guy tells her it's not safe and she doesn't listen. One of these days an author needs to make a story where a character thinks she's so tough and in control of her life and meets her maker as a cause, so it will emphasize the meaning of common sense.
The hallelujah chorus breaks out when any heroine stops and goes nope, this could get me killed. Think I'll listen to the guy who's a cop and knows what he's doing.
Other than that, I liked how the story and how the hero interacted with the cats. Very cute.
The story was a both a mystery and a romance. At times light hearted and funny, and then often really rather sad. The story took unexpected turns, and kept my attention.
I really liked the stray mama cat that no one would admit to feeding, the supportive friends and family members, and the "ghost" mother who stayed because she loved her child and wanted to help. I liked the author's style of writing. I read this book in one day because it caught my imagination and held it. I think others will enjoy it too.
Everything felt right. The story, the characters, the pacing...everything. I absolutely loved it. I loved it so much that I quit reading it for a day because I didn't want to read "The End." Now that's messed up...LOL.
But it is truly a great book. A huge thanks to the talented Ms. Craig.

This is what I call a very romantic mystery novel. The love story portion was very emotional and had a very satisfying happy ending.Published 5 months ago by Carol L Perrin
Enjoyed this one a lot - Mama reminded me of my own mother. It had everything - blazing romance, edge of seat suspense, surprises along the way and of course, there was Mama.Published 6 months ago by Laura J Kaminski
