"Love cozy mystery? You're in for a treat with Dianne Harman's latest book in the Cedar Bay Cozy Mystery series: Murder in the Pearl District. A quick and easy read like others in the series this one features all the hallmarks of her stories. There's a puzzle to solve, a likable sleuth--Kelly, owner of Kelly's Koffee Shop, and pleasant surroundings, well-described. This time Kelly ventures out of Cedar Bay to one of my favorite cities, Portland Oregon, and their renowned Pearl District. The story is set around good food [recipes included] as usual. In this case because a celebrity chef turns up dead! Plenty of suspects turn up in the course of the investigation into whodunit. As the investigation revs up, Kelly's trusty dog Rebel at her side, the thrills and spills rev up too. It all leads to a satisfying conclusion. I don't know where else you can find this much fun for 99 cents! I bet the paperback books are great given the lovely covers featured on the books in this series. Kindle or paperback, the books are a perfect accompaniment to a latte and a tasty treat on a rainy day or afternoon break in Portland or anywhere else. Another five star read if you're a fan of cozy mysteries!"

I enjoyed the characters, which are a diverse group, who are well developed and mesh well with the plot. The plot itself is well developed and with enough twists to really hold your interest. The writing is light, refreshing and very engaging. My only downside is that in places the dialogue feels heavy and not always with a natural flow but that is a very minor complaint in a what is a nice, solid and very enjoyable mystery. I will be looking for the other books to read.
In this book, Kelly steps out of the comfort of Cedar Bay and into the big city to do a favor for a friend. Luckily her husband, Sheriff Mike, makes her take her boxer Rebel and a gun for protection. As it turns out, she needs both! It's a nice, smooth transition into the area called the Pearl District that introduces us into a whole new group of characters. Some likable, some not so much. Dianne weaves a good story with all of these new characters that keep your interest. Since it's in a fine dining restaurant we get recipes that are mentioned in the story, that's a plus to me!
I am always looking forward to the next book in this series and well as the Dianne's new series Liz Lucas Cozy Mysteries. Keep up the great work, Dianne!
