Rosa and Larry attend the Grand Opening of the local NASCAR track just a few miles out of the town they live in.
Several of the drivers have past scandals and histories as bootleg runners during the prohibition era.
When one of the more prominent families with two of the drivers in the race has first the winner of the race, and then his brother killed a few days later.
Rosa is on the case, and she is in it until the killer is caught, not knowing just how much danger she's putting herself in.
Meanwhile, Larry is getting to go back to Texas and is waiting on an answer as to whether Rosa will accompany him or not.

Another fun story in this series with developed characters and a continuing story line.

This is the sixth book in this series, and it is a standalone book.

I'm pretty much addicted to Lee Strauss' stories, from Ginger Gold's first adventure I've bought every book as soon as it's out. Lee has a knack from creating fun characters that you care about and want to see do well, want them to be happy, respect for making courageous choices and love to watch figure out a crime and get the bad guy. In this series, Rosa (daughter of Ginger and Basil from the first series) is in California with family there, avoiding the fiance she left at the alter only to discover her first and greatest love is still single and still in town, where she met him during WWII. But that's another story. In this story, she's struggling with the decision about whether to follow her latest 'squeeze' to Texas as he'd like her to do, while maintaining a professional relationship with, yep, the guy she really loves who is now the lead detective as they both focus on solving the latest murders. Rosa follows the clues, asks hard and often aggressive questions, was a police officer in the UK so isn't intimidated by anyone and is a crack shot (this is a woman who doesn't need rescuing). It's all a delightful romp with lots of fun 50's atmosphere. If you haven't guessed by now, I highly recommend you start with the Ginger Gold series and then follow Rosa's adventures. I recommend reading the books in order because a larger story unfolds over the course of each individual cozy mystery murder investigation. I have to say, I really loved how this latest book ended and can't wait for the next one to come out in May!

I am glad that Miguel finally spoke up about his feelings Formosa. It would have been awful for her if she left for Galveston with Larry who wasn't even proposing marriage to her. She is still so in love with Miguel it would be a shame if they didn't get a chance to be together again.

One thing that you can always be sure of when you read a Rosa Reed Mystery is that you will be entertained. Part of the fun of the series is following the characters through the various adventures and watching them grow. It’s hard to say in this review what I really liked about this book without giving away spoilers, so I will just say that I absolutely loved the ending. It’s what I’ve been waiting for since I started reading these books.
Even though I’m not really a race car fan, I enjoyed learning about the history of NASCAR and sharing those facts with my husband. The story was exciting and enjoyable. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series, especially due to the scene at the end. Did I mention I am really excited about that ending?

Hillbillies, moonshine, revenge. All seem to be an integral part of NASCAR racing according to this book. When a leading driver is killed, his brother employs Rosa to investigate. This is definitely a book to read if you love fast car chases! Once again, Deputy Diego’s antics give Rosa an advantage over the police. Has Gloria found her métier at last? Thoroughly enjoyable.
