By: Dianne Harman
Dianne Harman weaves another cozy mystery “Murder & The Secret Cave” it is another High Desert Cozy Mystery that will keep you turning the pages. I have become a fan of Dianne Harman and her cozy mysteries , and look forward to her next book .I love the story and the characters, both were easy to follow. There is a murder that takes place , mystery, some romance, and lots of Native American artifacts all weaved into this cozy mystery. Harman keeps you guessing who the killer is . There is also some recipes in the back of the book that sounds really good.
This story has a great group of characters lusting after Native American artifacts, to keep for themselves or return to the rightful owners.
Plus, what would these potential baddies do if they had an illegal collection?
But I'm getting ahead of myself -- I want to tell you more, but I shouldn't. So jsut one more thing: Marty Morgan is asked by Randy to appraise his horde while he's still alive... but Randy's murderer intervenes
Join Marty, her black Lab who hates the desert, and more quirky characters characters including Marty's psychic sister, and her psychic sister, Laura, and her black Labrador, Duke, must find the killer before he goes after Marty. Good thing Marty's beau is a detective.
Murder and the Secret Cave: High Desert Cozy Mystery is a feast for any lover of mysterious fun.
Murder & The Secret Cave proved to be an entertaining reading. At the end of the story the author included a surprise and a half. Readers familiar with Ms Harman’s works can probably guess what the surprise is. However, it may be difficult to deduce the half of a surprise.
In most of my book reviews, I like to include a couple of the statements I read and that, for some reason or another, impressed me: “…old desert rats like himself weren’t supposed to believe in spirits…, but he was pretty sure there were some spirits in the cave…” and “it was hard to look directly into his eyes. They seemed to be bottomless.”
But, what about the ‘pearls of wisdom’ that you will find in the one-half of a surprise included in the book? Here is just one small sample: “…you are bleeding precious energy because you daydream, blame, complain and criticize…”
Don’t worry, Ms Harman included the link to find the other half of this surprise. Educational, interesting and intriguing reading, four stars, Jake Taylor
Dianne Harman is the author of many wonderful series. The High Desert Cozy Mystery series is one of her newest and best.
MURDER & THE SECRET CAVE was a great mystery from start to finish. Well written, characters, such as protagonist, appraiser Marty Morgan, and her big black dog, Duke and his pink booties.
Ms. Harman told this story from several perspectives, with different chapters following various characters as well as time frames. All parts of the story converged to lead to an exciting reveal that took me by surprise.
And kudos to author Harman for a very original murder weapon!
Make sure to check out the wonderful recipes at the back of the book!
I personally love a cozy mystery and this series allows me a comfortable read. I also enjoy learning facts about the type of antique appraisals Marty does in each book. In this episode the black market in Indian artifacts makes the story more interesting. A bonus offered by the author are tempting recipes at the end of the book, but I wish I could print them from my Kindle.
