Editorial Reviews
Rather like the ruined cottage near where I live, where I had a murder committed in Body In The Woods, had always seemed somewhere I must leave a body in one of my stories, the cliff top in Mallorca, from where I dispatch a victim early in this story, seemed somewhere something unpleasant must happen to someone, even though my stories don't usually venture abroad. In some ways this, the third Chief Inspector Macdonald story, starts where both the first and second ones ended, by reintroducing Caroline Meredith as a main character as she was in Murder in the Marches, but not in The Body In The Woods. A main character who has as little time for Chief Inspector Macdonald as he has for her, mostly because of the number of unresolved issues they still have between them.As the story unfolds characters who were in the first book but not the second, and in the second book but not the first, are united in a story which ties up some of the loose ends dangling from both the previous books, then, I hope, leaves others in their place.
