A birthday party for a one year old at a firing range? A bar in a bookstore is unheard of. Guns in a bar ? Book club meeting where everyone is drinking and in the morning.
Main character looking for murderer when she isn't involved or affected. She's an idiot, too
Anyways, we are in the heart of Sonoma wine country. I'm stressing this fact because vineyards are predominant in this tale. In fact, you might want to pour yourself a libation to read this fast-paced, laugh out loud book!
A book relies a good deal upon the complexity of the characters within the tale. Wow, all I will tell you is we have characters by the pages. A former military Colonel (U.S. Army) with his mascot from the USMC (Duke.) Then there are the sisters themselves, quite unique and full of life. A mother that also enjoys living (and handling widowhood with grace.) We have their friends and patrons of the Bookstore and Bar (unique business concept but one I could get behind.) And, a yummy Detective, as well as a former Contortionist from her days in the Circus! Hummers, guns, knifes, but this is a real cozy novel.
I hope Ms. St. James continues this series. I truly was cheering at the ending. I could stand to read another dozen or more!
I loved the winery connection and enjoyed the descriptions of wineries and the area. It didn’t hurt to also h ar about. The yummy dessert foods, which recipes were included at the end of the book.
I loved the family dynamics. Lot's of teasing between the sisters, mom, and even the grandfather!
But when needed, they have each other's backs.
Plenty of laughter, some suspense, and a few red herrings.
I enjoyed the story and will be reading the next one in the series.
I love the characters and was sad to see the book end.
Sit back and enjoy as the plot builds before you.
