Anne's voice never sounded better and it's a delight to see and hear the talents of Canadian Roch Voisine (who's phenomenal voice sounds like Jim Croce) and Barenaked Ladies. With lush scenery of Toronto landmark The Old Mill as the backdrop, there's plenty of music (and two performances of Elvis Stojko) to keep young and old happy. Despite some trite dialogue with the guests on this special, the musical highlights include the gospel-sounding "No Room at the Inn," and, quite surpisingly, the inspired harmony of Anne singing with her husband, son, and daughter. Who knew!?! A MUST for Anne Murray fans and those who appreciate gifted voices and harmony.

A lovely and engaging Christmas special that leaves you feeling the warmth of holiday spirit.
Much of this entertainment is structured in group settings with family and friends,
in-side the lush background of the Toronto landmark ~ The Old Mill.
Cozy setting are filmed in-front of an enormous fireplace and Christmas tree.

Anne inspiring performance of "No Room At The Inn" ~ with choir accompaniment
is filmed a-mid some awesome views in-side The Old Mill.
This has been a favorite since I first heard it on Anne's 1988 C.D. ~ "Anne Murray - Christmas"

To my surprise I much enjoyed listening to (not so much watching) "God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman"
by the pop rock group Barenaked Ladies. From their album, "Barenaked for the Holidays"
An excellent rendition that gives this song new life.

Included is the lovely Christmas song "The Season Will Never Grow Old"
first released on the C.D. of the same title from Hallmark in 1993.

While admitting shes a sports fanatic ~ she introduces Elvis Stojko who at the time was
the World Figure Skating Champion and is an Olympic Silver Medalist.
He preforms twice ~ skating to Anne singing "O Holy Night" and Elvis Presley's "Santa Clause is Back in Town".
His agility and grace-fullness are so inspiring that they're simply enjoyable and don't feel dated.

The song "Christmas is coming" was written and preformed by Roch Voisine especially for this show.
I hadn't heard of him, but apparently hes popular in Canada and Europe. He has a lovely voice.

In closing "Silent Night" is beautifully sung by Anne and her family.
Her son William ~ daughter Dawn and husband Bill (later divorced May 1998)

The richness of her voice and the warmth of her style make you feel that Anne Murray is having this Christmas gathering just for you.

The beautiful setting lends itself to holiday photography and there is excellent sound on this DVD. While the jacket lists one of her guests as "international sensation Roch Voisine," I never heard of this Canadian favorite. Now that I have heard him, I'll be looking for more of his work. Roch introduces a song he wrote just for this party, CHRISTMAS IS CALLING. His guitar work is outstanding. Anne and Roch follow with an unusual medley WE THREE KINGS, THE LITTLE DRUMMER BOY, THE STORY OF THE THREE BELLS (about Little Jimmy Brown) and DECK THE HALLS. Their voices blend beautifully. It would be a treat to hear more of their duets on another Christmas special. It's worth the price of the DVD just to hear these stars sing together.

Two ice rink segments feature champion skater Elvis Stojko and there's a segment where Anne sings with the pop rock group Barenaked Ladies. There are plenty of old standards but it's nice to have some contemporary Christmas songs, too. THIS SEASON WILL NEVER GROW OLD with words and music by Canada's Rita MacNeil is now on my list of contemporary favorites. It's a joy to have Anne's voice fill my home with this song along with all the others on this program.

A wonderful Christmas special with Anne and friends. I particularly enjoyed seeing her sing with her family and her gospel rendition of "No Room At The Inn". Sometimes the dialogue appears to be over rehearsed but if a person has never seen Anne in Alive performance, these tv specials are priceless.

This video is not a new special but it is an enduring one. The selections are a blend of Christmas standards and some more contemporary selections. The video should be a must see for each holiday season - the scenery is beautiful and the music brings the holiday feeling right into your home. After viewing the video I felt as thought Anne had gathered some of her best friends to celebrate with and I was part of the group. One of her best specials.

I THOUGHT THAT THIS CLASSIC VIDEO FROM ANNE'S TV SHOW WAS JUST AS GOOD AS ALL
OF THE VIDEO'S I SAW THAT SHE HAS MADE. SHE CAN SING AND HAVE A GOOD TIME WITH
HER GUEST WHICH GIVES A GOOD TIME TO HER LISTNERS. ALL OF THE SONGS WERE GREAT
AND OF COURSE WITH HER SINGING THEM THEY WERE EVEN BETTER.

THANK YOU
