I did also contact GigaRAM to ask them whether they were selling genuine Mushkin product, and they responded that their product was labeled as GigaRAM product instead. They also asked me whether I really needed Mushkin product. I responded that when a product is advertised as being a Mushkin product, I expect it to be a Mushkin product. Shortly thereafter, GigaRAM took down their Amazon.com listing for Apple Mac Pro Mushkin memory (976609A).
Though it is not my desire to have RAM from three different manufacturers in my aging 2008 (3,1) Mac Pro, I looked up Apple's memory pairing guide for my particular model and installed it anyway - with the intention of returning it at the first sign of trouble.
After some initial problems after installation, the Mac Pro finally recognized all modules. I then sent the RAM through a 3.5hr long battery of stress-tests using memtest, which it passed without any errors.
# UPDATE 09/28/2013 #
1x stick failed diagnostics at system startup. The machine now only reports 10GB of memory. Upon re-seating the memory, to see if it might resolve the issue, I noticed that this memory runs far warmer than adjacent sticks from another manufacturer.
This is why it matters that they're falsely advertising this memory as "Mushkin" brand:
---Real Mushkin RAM comes with a lifetime warranty.
---This memory does not.
I'll be sure to take this up with Amazon.
I don't foresee any issues with this product as long as the computer itself keeps within it's normal temp ranges, but then again, any computer component will have issues if overheated.
I just might have to order another 8GBs down the road for this price!
Installed and recognized right away.
WARNING: The labels on the RAM are not facing the same way as the RAM you
probably already have installed, you just have to flip the RAM stick. Don't force it
in like I did and pop off a holder tab.
This memory met all of the Apple requirements and at a good price.
