I originally ordered this music controller to go with my HitLights High Density Waterproof LED Lighting Strip RGB Color Changing 300 SMD LED, 5 Meter or 16 Feet Plug-and-Play Kit, with 44 Key Remote and Transformer because those LED lights were listed under the Amzon recommended purchases, but they did not work with this controller.
You need to get this music controller instead:
OPTIMA 3 Port Music Controller with IR Remote
It cost more because it is meant to supply 72 watts which is needed for the 300's. Also, if you do want to order the Optima music controller, it will only power 1 roll of 5 Meters RGB Strip 5050SMD with 300 LED's/Roll, or 2 rolls of 5 Meters RGB strips 5050SMD with 150 LED's/Roll. An amplifier is required if you want to power more than what is stated above.
As for the music function it's great. For $15, it far exceeded my expectations. It takes awhile to dial in a sensitivity that works best for your setup. Once you got it, I'd say it follows the music 90% of the time. It's not super smart, so complex music might confuse it. Newer, "fuller" music works better. Listening to older, tinny music doesn't create many light changes. More modern mixes with deeper base tends to get it rocking pretty good.
lights. It all came very quickly, all in one box. The light strip also came with the 44 button remote! That's a plus!! :)
**Pros: This thing has MANY pros. It picks up sound well when you have it near a speaker. There are a few different modes:
16 different set dimmable colors: Red, Green, Blue, White, and many variations of orange, yellow, light blue, purple, and pink.
Seperate On, and Off buttons.
Dimmer: Seperate brighter, and dimmer button.
Flash: This flashes between (7?) different colors every two (pretty sure) seconds.
Fade: This is a quicker fade, not extremely slow but not uncomfortably fast, fade between all of the colors.
Strobe: This setting does not have constant light, and it flashes a different color every time the white controller box picks up sound.
Beat: This setting has a constant light. It changes color to the beat (typically it picks up the beat)
**Cons: Not many big things, just a few specific things that could be changed, but aren't a big deal.
Plasticy feel: This device has a very cheap, plasticy feel to the box, *BUT it functions PERFECTLY* This is not a big deal, just don't drop it
from 20 feet in the air.
NO POWER SUPPLY included: This device comes with NO POWER SUPPLY. You must buy a *12V* power supply. I happened to have an extra adapter on
hand, which worked perfectly.
**Notes: Not very many. Only a couple:
** Again, NO POWER SUPPLY included: You need to buy a separate 12V power supply and clip the end off. No soldering needed, on the input there is
** a push button that you push down, and insert the wire. I happened to have an extra one on hand.
>>Purchase again? - Definately. Coinsidering it
>>Recommend? - Already done it, especially since it was only $30!
What I did to set up the product:
Chop off the end of the power cord and strip the wires 1/2 an inch or so. The red wire goes into the + slot, and the black wire into the other slot on the controller.
You have to push down relatively hard on the levers to get them open enough to insert the wires.
Then strip the ends off the wires from the LED flexible strip and insert them into the appropriate slots on the music controller, RGB into their respective slots and this time black goes into the + slot.
That's it, you are now ready to power on and rock out to the dizzying array of colors.
This product is absolutely amazing. It is very sensitive to sound (my dogs barking outside can trigger color changes) and will cycle through the spectrum of the rainbow quickly and with varying intensity. I am floored by the ambiance the LEDS dancing to music provides.
That said, the instructions are in Engrish and are less than worthless. You must have a 12 Volt power supply as one is not included, which could and should be made more clear in the product description. In addition, detailed instructions on exactly where you need to insert the wires would have been immensely helpful for those of us who are electrically impaired.
Great product once it is running, nifty remote control, included guide is less than helpful, power source not included.

The music response is terrible. The remote failed after a month. My TV remote interferes with the wireless signal.
