I am a 20 year old woman who has been obsessed with big band for most of my life, and when I watched the new Gatsby movie I thought "Why have I not listened to 20's music yet?" I bought this cd with the other Gatsby soundtracks and I am in love with it. The music is so much fun, I even convinced my boyfriend (who loves rap and house music) to dance the Charleston with me to the songs on this cd! I love to listen to this music in my spare time, but it will always remind me of the late night fun I had dancing in the living room.

This is a great collection of music from the 1920s, all original recordings from that time. They have been "cleaned up" well and will therefore be more enjoyable to modern ears. However, the name of the album is misleading. I doubt this music was INSPIRED by "The Great Gatsby." It's just music from the time period of the novel. That really doesn't make much difference--except that a buyer needs to understand the music has nothing to do with the soundtrack of the movie. Liner notes are lacking. No recording dates. Too bad the movie director of the "The Great Gatsby" didn't see fit to use recreate this music for use in his film.

This music should have been added to the soundtrack of Baz Lurhman's recent interpretation of The Great Gatsby. Seriously Baz, a lost opportunity that could have made your movie immortal.

Although these tracks are consistent with the Gatsby era, they are not truly prime examples of "hot" tunes then prominent. Their sound quality is quite good, though.
