i gave this 4 stars because it's a cover album I like rewarding for original material, having said that the covers well known songs and done in a beautiful homage to the originals...musically the album is superb done by first class musicians...their is a very gospelesque quality probably reflecting pap mali new Orleans roots.... I doubt if you bought this cd or download you would be disappointed
Another classic from Papa Mali - If you Like Thunderchicken and Do Your Thing, this album is a great addition to your collection. Continues the style of the previous albums while adding textures from collaborative projects such as his 7 Walkers and the M&M's.
A solid album and a solid purchase. Another record you can listen to straight through. The songs all work together and take you on a musical journey.
While he's not technically from NOLA or south Louisiana, Papa Mali's got the groove down cold. Swamp fever hoodoo, sonically open and dank, great supporting cast (the Harmonaires on b/vox, Vidacovich on drums, etc.) behind him - great album and on sale as I write this.
