There's really not too much to say about this, except that any big fan of "Clint Eastwood", or at least the majority of these movies should like this. What I enjoy most are the tracks from his westerns, as they all set a nice mood, but the rest are very good as well. I can't help but think this would have been twice as good had it contained dialogue from each of these films too. Overall a great collection for the fan. After all, if there's one thing "Clint" knows about as much as his acting, it's his music.

As we all know, the music is his first love. He likes all the kind of music, but particularly jazz and blues. It is a great opportunity to get know Clint Eastwood as a musician and composer through the music for the movies of Clint Eastwood. As it says this CD has a double mission. The first is to present a collection of the music most closely associated with Eastwood career. Other selections include pieces that represent the three composers Eastwood has worked with most consistently: Lalo Schifrin, Jerry Fielding and Lennie Niehaus. Finally and the most exciting are those seven pieces composed by Eastwood himself. Mission two is to present "Clint Eastwood. An American Filmmaker.", an original suit composed, orchestrated and conducted by Lennie Neuhaus. As he says: " I didn't want to get impressionistic, but there are parts in the suit that are his life, his past in the Army, and things that happened to him, but basically it's a piece of music with ten different feelings, moods, or whatever." And now the history. They met in 1952. They were both in the Korean conflict, as it was called then, and Clint was in the Army. Lennie was with the concert band, and Clint was a swimming instructor. Lennie had a jazz group, and it used to play at the non - commissioned officers' club where Clint was a bartender. He was a jazz fan and they started to talk. He'd come around to this little city near Ford Ord, Santa Cruz, and there were jam sessions there on Sunday afternoons, and he'd come down and listen to Lennie play. They had a lot in common. They found out that growing up, as teenagers, they used to go to the Jazz at the Philarmonic concerts. He lived in Oakland, Lennie lived in Los Angeles, so they used to talk about did you see the one with Bird? The one with Flip Philips? With Lester Young?Read more ›

This is a "semi" career spanning CD (and the only decent one in existence) of the movie themes from some great Eastwood movies. The earlier pieces are from his days in TV and transition to movies. The more mature work with Lennie Niehaus displays Clint's artistry, no not only as an actor, award winning director, but great composer. My only complaint is the disc is missing the off-beat and totally original jazzy "Just A Closer Walk With Thee" from THE GAUNTLET.

The disc does contain his wonderful A PERFECT WORLD and THE UNFORGIVEN. Why Eastwood never won an Oscar for some of his original scores is a mystery to me. He is more celebrated as a director than as an actor only because he won more awards in that category and his acting style was known for it's low-keyed and reactionary style. But the Clint Eastwood the musician cannot be dismissed and here is that more than proves his versatility. A known jazz lover, for fans of that genre, give a listen to WHY SHOULD I CARE from "True Crime", another great Eastwood composition.

The remainder of the disc is a salute to Eastwood and his work with a heavy emphasis on the jazz.

First rate. I've been a fan since his directoral debut in PLAY MISTY FOR ME. Little did I realize what a great composer he would turn out to be.

A must for any fans as there are no single soundtacks available from his movies featuring his work.
