These are OPEN ENDED and living in NYC I will spray some RUSH INHIBITOR on each stud (wipe & let dry) before installing/torquing to spec.
Ive included some PHOTOs of the finish on two of the chipped lug nuts (out of 20, 4 were chipped) but nothing you cant notice from more than 12 inches away.
I will also use a thin plastic bag when removing/installing these lugs to prevent chipping.
Out of all the colors Muteki provided these seem to be the best choice in terms of long term use/investment over stock OEM lug nuts.
Black would've been nice but with salty NYC roads and pebbles im afraid the chips & scuffs on the black versions will show more after use.
I saw the other brands that Amazon offered and they roughly were about $30+ and to pay the extra $20+ on these Muteki SR48s seem like a worthy investment.
Each lug weighs 1.9oz or 54grams
Each lug is a size 17mm

These fit with Konig Helium and some old unknown basket weave rims. The manufacturer says to only use their socket and to never use an impact. I need to impact these for removal because of time and energy constraints. The provided socket fits these nuts the best. A Craftsman 17mm deep socket fits but can get stuck especially with an impact. I guess consumer grade sockets are not close enough tolerance.
The metal, especially the socket, seems to be softer than I have seen in other lug nuts and sockets. The hex head end of the socket has been getting chewed up. I am accustomed to the Gorilla style spline lugs with spline socket. The Gorilla socket has held up better over years of much more use. The Gorilla's finish has held up better too (I have a chrome and a black set on two cars). Sadly, I had grown tired of needing the special socket and wanted an open end nut for my new studs. This one fits the bill but does not fully eliminate the need for the socket.
I have used these for two event weekends.
I wish aftermarket wheels had larger lug bores!
Only downfall for these would be the paint scratches easily allowing them to rust and you have to use the special thin socket tool that comes with the package. (Scratches are not noticablw until the rust lines show.)
I chose the neo-chrome color, which I regret buying because the lug nuts are already starting to rust after three months. I would rather have bought the cheaper silver or black lug nuts since they are going to rust so quickly, it seems pointless to pay extra for a color that will rust out anyway.
