Daphne is of course trying to help figure out what's going on, keep the daughter of the Alpha safe and trying to decide if it's smart to get involved with Keme or not. Sometimes fate decides.
Come along for a wicked good ride in this story that is sexy, hot, and steamy in all the right places. It has mystery and intrigue and is sure to keep you reading until the very end! I know I couldn't put it down.
Katherine's arrival with her husband Quinn brings Daphne the realization that her friend is out of harms way, and fills Daphne with relief and joy. Until Keme, the first born son of her Alpha, arrives at her home. Always tantalizingly attractive, the chemistry between Keme and Daphne being cooped in a secluded house with only the soon-to-be parents creates a level of sexual tension Daphne does not know how to handle. She must decide to run from or give in to this desire. Then, when finally solidifying her decision, both an old enemy and a new threat causes Daphne, Keme, Katherine and Quinn to return to the territory of the LaFlamme family and the danger held there. More is clarified between what is myth and what is merely forgotten history. As more becomes revealed it is made clear that the power structure of the wolves in all of North America will have to change, and perhaps all of wolfkind?
This was a fun and sexy installment of the Guardians series by author JJ King. It leads readers further down the path of ancient werewolf prophecies and provides more understanding of the pack dynamics set in this supernatural world. Daphne provided an interesting strong female lead character, with her mix of cynicism, confidence and surprisingly enough uncertainty. It was her uncertainty and fragile nature of this tough she-wolf that provided a nice amount of depth to your typical romance heroine. Though she is not able to face her emotions tied to Keme at first, the lust-filled interactions that ensue between the two was a notch up of the steamy sexy writing from the first book within the Guardians series. Quinn and Katherine’s interactions still manage to steal the spotlight throughout much of the book giving a happy treat to fans who loved the first book to continue to follow their love story. The ending to this book was personally a bit frustrating that it left such a cliff hanger that I am salivating for answers. We still have so many unanswered questions about the dangers facing the LaFlamme's and their allies. So many unaswered questions about the Geliget, and now questions too of the mysterious wolf council. So many unanswered questions in regards to what happens with shifts of power between the alphas in North America, and what magic is bestowed upon those worthy of becoming alpha. I can't wait for the next book in this series to help relieve this itch of curiosity!
This was a really interesting second book. It wasn’t what I expected. I expected this to be all about Keme and Daphne. Instead their love story was almost an aside to the drama that followed Katherine. Both aspects were very well written and exciting. I loved learning more about Keme and Daphne. Their personal stories were very interesting and truly added a lot to the book. Its not only the characters that made this story good it was also a lot of the emotion that this book contains. Without spoiling anything you will need tissues by the time you finish this book. Overall, if you liked the first Guardians book you will enjoy this next installment. You do need to read the first book to enjoy this one.
