What a different story to the many boy meets girl, boy kisses girl.. Some cases o la la... Then boy marries girl and happily ever after. This tale took you through from the childhood of Jemmy and Clarry to their many twists and turns that were quite numerous. I don't want to say too much and spoil anything but I will say that the novel was extremely full and had you ebbing and flowing with the many emotions and twists that you believe it to be taking one direction only to be drawn away into another. I will admit to becoming tired at moments then something will happen and you get hooked in the moment or situation that will take you through. I believe this to be one more "folly" that of a labyrinth as it pulls you through and around many twists and turns, dead-ends and small treasures.
I enjoyed the journey for most part, a bit long yet many interesting plot twists kept it interesting and surprises helped. A good read.

Absolutely breathtaking. Speers' writing is gripping, the characters are well developed and grow throughout the novel, and the plot is well-done. The story line focuses on love lost, love redeemed, different types of love, and the enduring power of love to heal. Themes explored include bad choices--by many of the characters--and the long-lasting effects of those choices on the lives of many around them, the inter-connectedness of relationships, the growth of character, and the strength to make the right choice when society or convention deems it the wrong choice. This book is a true winner--kept me up til the wee hours of the night--had to finish it in one fell swoop. Could not put it down.
The book itself is a sweeping saga from pre-WWI to post-war. Background and cultural aspects are well developed and interesting. Book is filled with memorable secondary characters. I loved the symbolism and allegories.
There is a lot of pain, suffering , misunderstandings, etc. of which I am not usually a big fan. But this not a melodrama. Somehow, Speers pulls it all off and it seems realistic and necessary to the plot.

Wow..I really don't know what to say about this book. It was not what I expected what so ever..I know that I can't explain this book. It had me crying and screaming with all the turns and flip flops in the book. I am giving it a 5 star rating because if your reading this girls review than I will say this. This book is a book that is original at least to me. What you think will happen doesn't. The author keeps you guessing the whole time in this book. I wanted to put it down so many times but this book grabbed me. Even though it is not a normal read for me it still had me hooked..
Your just gonna have to read it in order for this review to mean anything..
Happy Reading

This book caught my interest within a couple of paragraphs and I was sad to finally finish it. The writing style was clean and crisp, yet I felt like I knew the people and could see the surroundings clearly. I'm looking forward to any further writings by Susan Speers.

Check out my book blog: [...]

I absolutely LOVED this book! As soon as I began reading it the outside world ceased to exist for me! It is a beautiful novel about enduring love of two passionate characters who hold onto their love no matter the obstacles in their way.
Jeremy and Clarry are the type of characters that make readers fall in love with them as well as the book. They are intelligent and kid, and they also are human, faults and all.
MY COUSIN JEREMY is set mostly in the time before WWI, but the end of the novel deals with the aftermath of WWI, which includes the struggles that young veterans had coping with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder during a time when not much was known about this problem.
Clarry's love for her cousin is so pure and sweet that it's impossible not to fall in love with her. I admit that at first, the idea of cousin's being in love creeped me out, but I made myself keep in mind that cousin's marrying was not at all uncommon during this time period.
I wasn't completely endeared to Jeremy at the beginning, because I felt like he was a bit of a coward when it came to standing his ground regarding his love for Clarry. He also came across as a little arrogant, but as the novel progressed, especially after WWI, he became just as beloved to me as Clarry was.
This is a passionate love story between two amazing characters, and the sex scenes were beautifully written without a hint of vulgarity. I was amazed at how quickly I read this novel. I kept on reading, because I had to know what was going to happen next! Susan Speers has created a love story which I can honestly say is right up there with some of the greatest love story's (in my opinion) of all time.

My Cousin Jeremy is one of those books that grabs you right at the beginning and keeps you there right to the end. Jeremy and Clarissa are cousins who fall in love at a very young age but are torn apart by Clarissa's cold and domineering father. In an effort to deny their feelings and to do the right thing, the two fall into other relationships, often disastrous ones. But no matter what paths they take away from each other, they always seem to circle back.

The characters were very easy to relate to, regardless of whether you liked them or not. Clarissa was very easy to love, as the doting woman to Jeremy. I often had to remind myself that I was reading a story set in a very different time in society because I kept wanting to tell her to stop being a doormat! Jeremy as a sympathetic character, but one I was often very frustrated with because of his behavior. One of my favorite characters was Dickon, although he wasn't a main character. He was such a sweet and gentle man in the story and I really liked him, Caroline was also a very sympathetic character, although not always the most likeable. All of the characters, regardless of their role in the story, were very well developed and made very real.

If you like a good historical romance, I definately recommend this book. It was very emjoyable!
