I have made the doll and the underwear only so far.

Pros: The patters are so cute. The little photo vignettes are adorable and made me want to MAKE ALL TEH THINGS!!! The different outfits are adorable and there are plenty of opportunities for customizing the doll and the outfits to suit one's fancy. The instructions (where they exist, more on that in the CONS section) are easy to follow and totally spot on. I have rarely found a crochet pattern book that was so well edited. If it says you should have 17 sts at the end of the row, and you don't, you can be certain it's because you missed something and not because of a stupid typo somewhere. (You can probably tell that this is a pet peeve of mine.)

CONS: No gauge is given. She tells you the weight of the yarn and the hook size she used, but if you have different yarn, you're on your own figuring out which hook to use to make things fit right. This was a big deal for me, because I already have so much accumulated yarn that I am absolutely not willing to go out and buy special yarn for these projects. The assembly and finishing instructions are very brief and lacking in detail. The pictures show many different styles of hair, but the instructions for attaching hair are so sparse as to be almost useless. There are really no instructions for the face at all. "Make a stitch for the nose," or something like that was pretty much all she gave. There was a similar "Make a stitch" instruction for giving the doll an ankle, but I didn't figure that one out at all and just skipped it.

The cons may outweigh the pros for some people, especially those less experienced with crochet or with doll-making, or both.

So far I've only made the doll. First thing I noticed was there is no yarn gauge information to be able to substitute yarns that I can find locally. She only gives the crochet hook size. Also, when starting the pattern, I did not refer to the stitch dictionary that she includes because I've been crocheting for nearly 40 years. Right away I discovered that if I used dc (double crochet-American) that my doll was not looking like the pictures. Found out that dc in her terminology is really a sc (single crochet in mine). Same thing true for other crochet symbols in her book. So I recommend reading the stitch glossary pages first and referring to them before beginning any of the projects. I'm using #3 mercerized cotton crochet thread and my doll finished about 10 inches tall. About what I expected. I haven't tried the clothes yet but will have to test out different yarn and hook sizes until I can figure out what will fit the doll. NO YARN GAUGE INCLUDED!

As someone else has already mentioned, I wish for more step by step instructions and pictures as to assembly of the doll.

I'm going ahead and giving it a 4 star because my doll is coming out very cute. The finished pictures were sufficient for me to work out assembly. Just would have been a lot easier with assembly pictures so I would not have had to work it out myself.

The dolls and accessories are absolutely adorable, but I don't think I'll be able to reproduce them as there are no step by step instructions on how to assemble them. I can follow along on the crochet patterns for the clothes without much difficulty, but the lack of pictures makes constructing items such as the travel suitcase, cakes, inflatable raft and the doll itself harder than it should be.

This book needs pictures showing the doll being put together and it also should show how the hair is applied to the doll's scalp. Four more pages of text and photos would've made this book great.

The dolls and accessories in this book are adorable. I finished the doll and have a few comments. As has been said before, read the information on the stitches at the back of the book, as they are labeled differently than the stitches we use in America, for example a dc in the book is really a sc. I have run into this before and it isn't a huge problem but it would be nice if American editors would note it prominently in crochet books.

One of the things that drew me to this book was the dolls hair. She has some really cute hairstyles in this book. Unfortunately the author does not give any instructions on how to recreate those styles when you are making your own doll. In fact she gives very little, next to no instructions on how to attach hair. Also regarding the hair, the scalp is the upper portion of the head and when the hair is finished there is a lot of space at the back of the head that has no hair and it looks bad. I noticed that when the author shows the back of the head of these dolls in the pictures she hides this problem with hats and in one picture the straps of a mask. If I make another one of these dolls (which I probably will) I will have to change the design to allow for hair farther down the back of the head.

Also, as other people have said, the instructions for assembling the doll are pretty bare bones. If this is your first crocheted doll it could be a disappointing project. I can not comment on the clothing as I have not yet made any.

The overall problem with this book is that it is more about cuteness than instruction. If the Author could revise it with more guidance on how to put the projects together and more pictures illustrating that guidance it could be a best seller. As it is now it is better suited as a picture book for little girls than a crochet pattern book.
