Bogan Chick is more than just a "My Fair Lady" adaptation set in today's society, Charmaine has written a gutsy, thoughtful and insightful book that addresses the ups/downs of when a woman is taken out of her comfort zone and given new clothes, learns to speak "properly" etc....As one of the character says, "you can take her out of Moe but you can't take the Moe out of the girl!"
You have a strong, clever heroine that is doing is so hard in caring for her family. There are parts of the book that are gut wrenching, reminding many of us how lucky we are. Sally is one amazing heroine!!!
We follow the tribulations of her transformation through the eyes of the hero and heroine and Charmaine has a brilliant style of writing so you are heavily invested in the story. You can see what's going to happen, you see the train wreck coming and you're hoping you're wrong.
Having been so emotionally invested in the book, I was cheering for Sally and Rhys, hoping they'd get their well deserved happily ever after.
Thank you Charmaine Ross for a great and emotional read.
Sally Foster is a woman with nine brother and sisters, yes nine. She is more of a mother to each and every one of them than her mother is or probably ever will be. She has given up living her own life for them. Then that fateful night when she is trying keep her brother Stevie out of trouble she runs into Rhys and Drake. Drake is a politician and Rhys is Drake’s right hand man, trying to make sure Drake stays in the public’s positive eye. Rhys and Drake want to make Sally their poster person or the new education program. And so begins a modern day “My Fair Lady” story. Rhys is the person getting Sally ready for her challenge. During her education, Sally starts to fall for the good-looking sexy Rhys, and he for her. Unfortunately, Martin O’Brien a scum bag reported decides to….. Stop, no spoilers from me.
This is a really great, emotionally romantic story that takes a really important subject of education and makes it into a GREAT book.
Ms. Ross has done a phenomenal job writing about the subject. She made all of the characters believable, and for the most part eventually lovable when you know the whole story.
I was gifted with an ARC of this book for my honest review, for which I NEED to say thank you, as I stated above, I loved this book.
Again, thank you for reading my review. Now, go exercise you index finger, and hit the ONE-CLICK button, you also will enjoy this wonderful book.
I really liked Sally and how she strove to improve and thus bring a new life option for many people living in the same situation as her. I also loved the way she takes care of all her brothers, always doing what is best for them, even having been "obliged" to take responsibility for her mother.
When Drake and Rhys appear things change. At the beginning I didn't like Drake, but he managed to surprise me at the end, and for good!
And Rhys, what to say about this lovely guy, that from the first moment have showed that he's a special guy. And when he and Sally can't hold their feelings, things get enter the shafts.
Beautiful story of overcoming and pursue your dreams. I loved it!
I received this ARC for an honest review.
