Format: Paperback
This is one of the poorest books written, evidence that people should not self-publish! There are numerous misspellings throughout, and I believe the story is being told by someone who has lived a very limited and unfulfilling life, regretting some terrible secret. After the first chapter or two, the book reads as if a young high school girl is fantasizing -- that's how uninteresting the plot is. I'm not sure whom the first two reviewers of this book are that they gave it such high marks, but I would guess it was the writer and her spouse. Very disappointing that more trees have died, all in the name of a self-described writer who needed her ego stroked. Do not waste your money on this tripe.

After reading One Step From Grace, I could not wait for Barbara Petee's next book to catch up with the Durlings.
I did not, however, anticipate that anything could surpass the first novel in its gripping, true-to-life depiction of this wonderful family.
But Ms. Petee has done it! Another outstanding story that continues on the road of life with Karen, David and their family. It is so refreshing to read a story so engaging about good people who handle life's ups and downs in a very human way.
My Father's House is, again, a book that I could not put down. I did, however, linger over the final chapters, not wanting the story to end.
Just one question - when is Ms. Petee going to publish her next book? I am sure that I join others who urge her to - hurry!

From the first page, to the breathtaking closing paragraphs -- I simply couldn't put this novel down. I picked it up at about 5 p.m. and finished it very early the next morning! Petee has an incredible ability to draw each character with amazing clarity and form. I feel as if I know the Durling family personally: I have laughed with them, and now mourn with them...and can hardly wait to see where life will lead each of them.
