Working in hospice and palliative care, we often discussed the lack of appropriate resources to help the children, grandchildren and siblings of our patients process their grief. I wish I'd had a copy of My Favorite Color is Blue. Sometimes. on my shelf. The poetic verse and vivid artwork gently explore the spectrum of emotions grieving children, youth and adults experience. -Sarah H. Cross, LMSW, MPH

Here's why Hutchison's book is helpful:
--simple language suitable for adults and children
--beautiful colors and textures to draw in a more reluctant/wary reader
--kind, gentle message that having mixed and swirling feelings is totally natural ("normalizes" varied feelings of grief)
--even through messy and strong feelings, each page returns to love as the core of the speaker's relationship to the one they miss
--doesn't specify the type of relationship between the speaker/narrator and the one they miss (could be parent, child, friend, spouse, pet, or maybe even a "before"--I miss the time before we moved, before the cancer diagnosis, etc)
--conveys a sense of safety, care, and meaning without using theological language (accessible to all faith traditions or no faith tradition)
--it's short!--can be read and reread easily, alone, as a family, in a class, or even as part of a children's message (in church, etc)
--would make a meaningful gift or addition to any library (personal, school, congregational, hospice, etc)
"I remember so many things about you. Remembering makes it easier to breathe."
