Okay, I've read almost everything this author's written, so I'm used to what she's done and have seen her style change bit by bit over the years. When I started Christien's story, I TOTALLY fell in love with it. Scenery was different, the approach was different, the billionaire was different. I devoured the whole thing and legit laughed out loud at how horrified he was at the heroine. The change in style was extremely appreciated, and I just couldn't help but love the way things began for him and Kharis.
The story took on a more familiar feel towards the end, but the drama was still pretty good. I'm really liking the sorta taboo between Kharis and Christien, and I liked that out of all the billionaires I've met, he's one that seemed truly dark. I just wanted to put him in my pocket T_T Kharis was pleasantly sweet and young, a fresh breeze for me with all the harder characters I've been reading this week. A few times I had to wonder if a character would really do this or that but overall, the book read like a great, optimistic love story between a rainbow girl and a companion of Death. Definitely a book I loved.
What I didn't quite get was how the OW thought, after 3 years of free loading off him, and not even hooking up, that she actually had the gall to be enraged by getting rid of her. Which he obviously should have done sooner, and which caused him even more problems. Clearly this was a plot point but after 3 years anyone would have gotten the message that they weren't wanted.
Other than that, because of course it did further the story, I really loved this one. Can't wait for the next one! Ms. Tee is back in her groove thankfully.
(Just as an aside, I loved the original titles that included Beast and never got confused that they were PNRs, especially since they were clearly about the BBFs. Those boys are beasts, and I adore them LOL!)
This is a unique story to others I've read from Marian Tee. It has a sort of morbid awe about it that I found quite interesting. Main Character isn't the usually stoic no nonsense type that you'll usually read from this author. You fall in love with him and what he goes through in the story.
His lady is someone who challenges him with everything about her being his complete opposite, yet it somehow works. It also has some of my favourite characters from previous stories popping in making you want to reread the entire Marian Tee collection. Kudos Marian, thoroughly enjoyed it
