So I guess you could say I had high expectations for this book. While I didn’t absolutely adore Diplomatic Relations, it was just okay. But that didn’t deter me from reading this book, as I thought, sometimes authors have just so-so books.
Anyway, to get to my actual review. Right off the bat, it was clear this was a blatant Outlander ripoff. But that’s fine, as Outlander has awesome sex scenes and an interesting storyline. The plot line to this one was quite lackluster. However, she did a great job giving us answers to the main subplot in all the previous books in this series. However, it felt like that was more important than the two main characters in this book. Also, the sex scenes were atrocious. What happened?? There was quite a build up to some super lame zero foreplay sex. JL Langley is amazing at writing hot passionate sex scenes, but this just had two super short sex scenes consisting of them just putting it in and that’s it.
Next, the “Timothy” aspect of this book wasn’t even remotely as charming as the author seems to think it was. It was honestly off-putting, and made Bannon sound schizophrenic.
Lastly, the ending was ridiculously abrupt. So many things were not resolved. It’s like she just gave up on these characters. That was especially disappointing with how long this book was delayed (although I’m aware of the DSP drama, which I’m sure was heartbreaking and stressful for the author). But, there was still a lot of time to reflect on this book.
Anyway, to put it simply, this book was pretty disappointing. However, 3-stars because I love JL Langley, and will always purchase any book she releases. I’ve never wrote a negative review for anything before, but I just felt like I had to speak up this time. I really hope she reads this review to maybe notice that her writing style has really changed.
Bannon/Red is an artist, not a warrior. He's cast into a clan that lives by the sword. No technology and in many ways still primitive. Everything's created by hand. The situation sparked Bannon's creativity and awe -- That this society created such beauty. During his stay he's called up to train, assist, speak up, and get things done. He's valued and in his element. Of course Bannon meets a special someone, twenty year old Ciaran, so close to his own age.
Trouble/Jeremy was mentioned in past books and I thought he met his parents earlier. Now that I think of it, Skye was mentioned in trade deals from the fourth book so maybe that's it. And that is about the only nit pick from this story: Marcus and Patrick didn't return home. Once they're home, all hell's going to break loose. !!
While this is the fifth book in the series and able to stand on it's own, a few events and overarching plots are ongoing and confusing. To compound things, the first four books in this series aren't available, so I had to go to Goodreads to familiarize myself with a few details. So delighted to see another Sci-Regency book out! - Dan's Wife
I am not a professional reviewer I won't sit and bore you with little bits and pieces. This is just the next book in a great series!
I was thrilled with how this series is coming together. To be honest I was at first a little bummed that we wouldn't get Rexley and Jeremy.
Now that I have read this book I am not upset!
This series needs to be read in order. You cannot jump around! You will become addicted.

Can't wait for more from this author.
I am English so may be a Scott would have more idea with the words but someone who is not a native English speaker I think will have even more of a problem than me and good luck if this is translated into other languages.
This writers earlier titles to my mind were more enjoyable
I did love the Marcus/Patrick story and looked forward to any and all of their scenes together. Nicely done there.
I love this world and have been fantasizing about it for over a decade. Many of the characters are special and memorable and I will read the next books that come out. I just hope they’re better.
