Recognizing that finally people do have a longing for spiritual things and reasoning beyond God, each photograph and illustration along with actual excerpts from the New York Times throughout the years, are beautifully pieced together and arranged on the page like a personal diary. They seem to communicate a deeply profound story that are almost like poetic vignettes or dreams if you will, that seamlessly connect the reader to the soul of Mr. Bleckner.
My favorite are the selected obituaries which are at times poignant and also really funny. One in particular stands out in my mind. It reads, "In Memoriam--- Jaynes-Madeline - 1943-2002. Our radical Quaker librarian friend missed so much: a war of aggression, the death of the news, the legitimization of torture, the shredding of the Constitution and the loss of rights guaranteed since Magna Carta. How outraged you'd be. We miss you, mad. If you're reading this call me".
I found myself being unexpectedly moved and enlightened while engrossed in this fun and truly inspired quick read. By the end I was left to ponder the delightful randomness and irony of life and death itself.
