Another clean, light, sweet romance from Shannon Guymon. My One and Only is book one in the Love and Weddings trilogy and takes you back to the town and people of Fir Crest, Washington. Do you know what I love about these books? Everything. :) I love that Shannon draws you into her stories so much that you come to adore her characters...or hate..if the case may be....You come to care about them and so it's like having the ultimate Epilogue, as you read all of the trilogys. You continually get updated on how they are, what they are doing, and that, YES, they are still "Happily Ever After". You literally come to feel as though they become long lost friends or part of the family. :) Therefore I highly recommend starting from the very beginning...and savoring every story.
This was Merediths story. I was curious of whether or not I could enjoy almost an entire story in Merediths head. She. Drove. Me. Crazy. in the other books she was in. She is so abrasive, bossy, conniving, just not likeable, or so I thought. I was shocked by how much I did end up liking her! I absolutely adored watching her grow and develop into the person she truly wanted to be, and yet staying feisty all the way. I wasn't entirely sure I could ever love our Hero either. Ash was a royal pain himself in the last trilogy. So fun to see them both mature and become people I would love to have as friends. This story was light and full of humor. The only villains were the Hero and Heroin themselves...which was much more humorous than scary....and I found it a refreshing and thoroughly enjoyable read!
If you haven't read any of her previous series, you will still enjoy this one. The story is strong. When I thought I was going to have to suffer through another tired love triangle, she twisted it and roped me in even deeper. Well played Shannon, well played.
If you have not been reading Shannon's books, you don't know what you are missing. Go out and correct that right now.
I have to admit, I didn't like Meredith or Asher much in previous books, but getting to know them better and watching their transformations changed my mind about their characters.
Meredith is a very strong willed woman and she throws everything she has into relationships, whether it be friendships or romances. It's all or nothing with her and because of that, she leaves herself wide open to being hurt and finds herself being very cautious. Asher is similar in many ways, but he's not one to hold back. When he sees something he wants, he goes for it. He puts on such a bad boy front, but I love how the Matafeo men can make him cower.
Meredith and Asher team up with a friend to form an online dating site and I loved learning more about it. The ideas are so creative and the new characters introduced are intriguing. I really enjoyed that aspect of the story, along with the humor. There were some misunderstandings that had me feeling terrible for a character, yet they were pretty funny. As usual, the clean romance is always my favorite part! I loved the references to music and the ending was absolutely perfect for the story.
Content: no language; no religious elements; no violence; mild romance (kissing). Clean!
