Okay, she buys this amazing property on the California coastline and then converts the entire property, grounds included, to look like an old New England Mill. She got them digging and moving earth around and around over and over until it just perfect for her. Put in stone walls, take em down, put in ponds, make it look like they've always been here. the house, its so huge and no one lives really lives in it. She lives in a second smaller house on the property. OMG you've just got to see what she did in her "basement" She builds a replica of a little mall with storefronts and shops. I found this book amazing Not an easy task to satisfy this woman, I wouldn't want to be James Brolin

Includes fascinating stories about historic people, events, and the arts and antiquities the author has collected over half a century. I find it all so beautiful and interesting, designs practical and whimsical. During a poor economy, the author single-handedly employed a small army of artisans, architects, carpenters, landscapers, gardeners, masons, painters, you name it (even a guy who hunts down salvaged wood for re-purposing), to create structures and spaces that look and feel authentically historic. How I LOVE this book!! I have read and re-read this book, fascinated by the amount of work that went into creating it. It is simply delicious and compelling as one is caught between lingering over each beautifully photographed page and wanting to turn the page to see what stunning images await. Also how talented Barbra is in so many ways. She is the photographer, designer, organizer, manager, interior designer and writer of this book. She has told the story of how this home evolved over many years and her meticulous attention to each and every detail. A self admitted perfectionist, I can well imagine how difficult it must have been to work with her as her creative spirit must have had more changes than one could possibly imagine. But as one who has gone through the process of remodeling more than one home, I can so appreciate the process she went through as she created the very soul of this house... or should I say houses on this stunning Pacific Ocean property. She gave a personal look into her life and inspirations that have spanned decades as this property became what it is today. I highly recommend this book and know that it would make a most welcome gift to any fan of Barbra or someone who is fascinated with Home and Interior Design. It quickly became one of my most cherished books.

What a beautiful pictorial tour through Ms. Streisand's estate. She has another talent in decorating to add to all the others. It took you through each room and she explained the design and the road taken to get from the thoughts to the finished room. Each item selected has a story behind it and many of the items she had collected for many years just waiting for the right room to place them in. So much love went into her designing of this estate. It is a most amazing tour through her eyes and worth every minute.
