Learning about the trials and traumas that John carried as he limped through life after a life-altering accident on the great Snow Goddess (Mount Everest), the reader has little opportunity to do anything less than grow to care deeply about the fearless man who struggled to live a good life at any cost.
From the moment I met Michelle in Ottawa, Canada, I knew she would be a perfect match for John. Struggling to come to terms with the death of her husband, Michele is valiant in her quest to live life, and Nepal was the place to do it. As she and her sister-in-law Cam prepare for their trip in honor of Adam, I grappled alongside Michele with the life decisions she was considering.
The challenges she and John meet head-on, their fearless determination to survive, and the connection that develops as they climb and coexist with the raw elements on the trail during a storm, left me mesmerized and unable to put down their story.
This was the first time I’ve ever listened to an audiobook, and I loved it. Well done, Ron Bagliere. I look forward to your next book.
As in The Lion of Khum Jung, Bagliere skillfully combines adventure and romance, and the settings and life history that made John the complex and fully realized character he is. Bagliere does what authors do, and provides John with new and unexpected challenges which force him to examine who and what he thought he was, and what he might yet be.
