Disappointing experience turned into a pleasant one

I own two of these: 216gb and 516gb. I bought the 216gb one about two years ago and it has been fine. I bought the 516gb device about 1 year ago but have very minimally used it since I only used it as a backup device. You can see how new the device still is in the attached video. Unfortunately, this second device is faulty. The device failed while I was backing up 9gb worth of files (between the two devices). I first noted something wrong when I heard a subtle but noticeable repeating screeching noise from the faulty device. The noise cycles every 5 seconds or so. The faulty device was noticeably warmer to touch. The file transfer rate dropped to 0/sec and never picked up. Normally it takes a few minutes to transfer 9gb worth of files but it was never completed. I aborted the process and repeated the process. The same problem recurred. You can hear the noise in the attached video. I also tested the devices using their recommended freeware (CrystalDiskInfo) and the faulty device clearly overheated, as shown on the attached screenshots.I filed a request to the manufacturer for replacement and hopefully they would send me a new one.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Update: the customer service was very pleasant. They immediately agreed to replacement. They sent me the version 2 of the disk. It works well.
