Good choice for low profile mSATA slot on Asus Q501LA

It uses Phison PS3109 S9 series low-end but cheap controller, not so functional as popular MDX or Marvell or Sandforce. But it supports TRIM, S.M.A.R.T. and NCQ function, no DevSleep. I am not sure whether it has "Global Wear Leveling" function. It is built in static and dynamic wear-leveling.
Shown on Phison's official website. This controller has 4 channels, not 8 channels as PS3108. But it runs fine on laptop, even without DRAM cache. It comes with 2 installing screw.

Great speed increase for my ASUS Q550LF

I installed this Half-Size mSATA card in my ASUS Q550LF (which unfortunately only accepts half-size cards). BIG Speed increase! I now boot Windows 8.1 in under 10 seconds. The 1TB HDD can remain in my system and be used as a data drive.

The SSD card can be used as either an OS Boot Drive (C: Drive), or if you don't want or need to move your Windows OS to this drive, you can also configure it as a cache for your existing Windows OS installation via the free HybriDisk software that comes with the drive. In this mode, you won't get the super-fast performance that running Windows purely from the SSD will deliver, but it will improve your boot time by about 60% and make loading frequently used programs much faster as well. You don't have to go through the task of re-installing or cloning Windows when using HybriDisk, and don't really need a big SSD drive for HybriDisk to work well, even a 32gb SSD will give you the performance boost.

I chose to use it as a boot drive for best performance, so I got the 128gb drive and put Windows on it.

Tip: I moved my Windows OS onto the card by using "Paragon Migrate OS to SSD 4.0" software which is well worth the $20 it costs, as I had downloaded and tried many other drive copying programs that all failed to work in one way or another, otherwise I'd have had to re-install Windows from scratch on the SSD.

Also, to get the best performance and reliability from your new SSD, check for any firmware updates for the drive from MyDigitalSSD's site BEFORE installing anything on it.

Fast little drive!

This little msata drive has finally made my Asus 302LA ultrabook fast!

Here are my benchmarks:

The numbers can vary, though, depending on the benchmark run. Sometimes the seq reads are only 285, the 512k reads might be only 170. Not sure if the OS is doing weird stuff. Benchmarks on my spinning drive can be just as inconsistent.

I will outline the upgrade procedure on my laptop, because it turned out to be easier than I expected, and well worth it!

-Replaced old cache drive with this ssd.
-Rebooted, F2 for bios, made sure the drive shows up. (I skipped this step at first and Windows acted corrupted after booting, not sure why).
-Boot into windows, new drive shows up in Computer Management/Disk Management. Don't partition or format yet.
-Buy Paragon Migrate OS to SSD 4.0 for $20. Don't bother with the WinPE recovery builder that comes with it.
-Run Paragon. It autodetects that you want to transfer the HDD to the SSD. Choose "Use all available disk space" and "Create new EFI boot entry on destination drive".
-The clone is done in 10-15 minutes, all within Windows. Amazingly simple.
-Once done, it tells you to reboot, press F2 and set the boot order in the bios. I did that, and the SSD was already set as the first boot drive without me doing anything. Save and Close bios.
-Windows boots in a few seconds off the SSD! Happiness and jubilation ensues.
-Next I removed my old drive and replaced it with a 1TB Hybrid Seagate I had lying around. I'll be storing my data on this. Much quieter than the stock HDD, but it's also thicker, so the fit is not as great, and it only fits if I throw away the stock drive bracket.
-I've created a symlink from C to D, so it looks like all my data resides on my C drive. The command is: "mklink /j C:\Steve D:\Steve". Make sure C:\Steve does not exist before you do this.
