✔️ The MyPilotPro Swivel GoPro Airplane Mount is a step up from the original mount in that it can swivel in any angle or direction. We are Ram Mount authorized partners and we teamed up with them to add the GoPro camera arm which allows you to point your camera in virtually any angle and direction. You can attach this mounts to any tie down on your aircraft without any tools. The cam lever can exert 400 lbs of pressure so you know it is attached securely. Neoprene washers throughout the mount ensure that any vibration can not make its way to the camera.

Easy to Securely Attach

✔️ Attaching the MyPilotPro Swivel to your tie down ring is very easy. Simply insert the first half of the mount into your tie down ring. Then insert the other neoprene washer, thick stainless steel washer, lock washer, and wing nut on the other side of the tie down ring. Once this is done clamp down the cam lever until it snaps into place. The process of attaching and detaching the mount only takes 30 – 45 seconds!

The mount also comes with 2 safety hair pins that prevents the mount from coming off your tie down ring. After you have attached the mount to your tie down ring and snapped the cam lever firmly in place, insert the included stainless steel hair pin into the hole at the end of the threaded rod. The 2nd hair pin goes into the bolt on the GoPro Swivel arm. These hair pins ensure that neither wing nuts can come loose. The hair pins coupled with the 400 lbs of pressure exerted from the cam lever ensures the mount is securely attached!

What a great new way to take flying videos

I have been using in-cockpit cameras for years, and my flying adventure videos have become somewhat stale. I purchased the MyPilotpro Swivel Mount for GoPro to see if videos shot outside of the cockpit might enhance the "wow" factor of flying small airplanes. I also purchased a cheap action camera (made by DBPower) from Amazon that has some GoPro features. I wasn't willing to risk $400 to see if a wing mount might work. The camera I purchased has the same dimensions as a GoPro. The results were better than expected. Below the wings of a Piper Warrior, you can position the camera to capture those perfect landings (main wheels first, then slowly lower the nose), while also getting a nice wide angle view of the world below before you land. The DBPower camera has a feature to continuously run, so I just mount it with the swivel mount, turn it on, and go flying. I bought some extra GoPro compatible ball mount attachments, but these tend to get pushed back a little by the force of the wind. In other words, the cheaper ball mounts do not adequately tighten to prevent camera movement. I had hoped to aim the camera at the cockpit from a Cessna 172 under-wing mount, but the strut gets in the way. I have an elaborate set of Ram mounts, but at some point you have to worry about putting too much hardware under the wing. As an aside, I read some articles about whether it is even legal to use an external camera mount. I decided that it was, but I am not a lawyer, so you may want to decide for yourself. Yesterday, I flew from John Wayne to Lindbergh Field (San Diego International), and got some amazing videos with the swivel mount and my cheap GoPro impersonator. If you anticipate the route of flight, you might just want to aim the camera at the ground. San Diego has Mission Bay, the Coronado Bridge, and more, and the video is almost as good as if it were shot by a drone. (You are usually too fast and too high to really pull this off, but I was pleased.) The mount has a very secure locking mechanism. Any point of failure will likely not be related to the swivel mount, like the slipping of the cheap ball mounts I mentioned. On the other hand, if you land a low wing aircraft on a rough field, an errant clod of dirt or an adventurous gopher could send your GoPro to action cam heaven.

I bought two of the mounts from MyPilotPro. This swivel mount and the non swivel option. Honestly the non swivel worked a lot better. There's just too much vibration that makes it's way to the camera on the swivel option. I had one on each side of the plane, non swivel, no vibration, swivel, lots of vibration on landing, take off and sometimes in the air. HOWEVER.... on the plus side, the clamp is very well made, it's easy to take on and off, but once locked in position, I have no fear of it falling off.

I get steady video results from this swivel mount. No vibration, just occasional flex. The aluminum cam lever is an excellent touch and much appreciated for quick mounting/release.

I mentioned elsewhere but this bears repeating:

Cameras have high power consumption whether recording or not. Better to leave camera OFF with its on-board Wifi ON until you want to record. Here are my suggestions for Hero 4/5/6 or Garmin.

Setup:
- pair camera with your smartphone or a wifi remote (I like GoPro's remote)
- place the camera in a waterproof protective shell to protect from debris and falls
- mount to tie-down eyelet
- adjust your camera's shot angle and preview with smartphone or camera's screen
- shut camera off, but **leave camera Wifi ON** (e.g. Hero's screen will be blank, but have a blinking blue light. Will refer to as "Wifi standby mode")
Usage:
- before something interesting: safely! use smartphone/remote to turn the camera on and start recording
- afterwards: stop recording and remotely power-off camera. It will remain in Wifi standby to record again.

This way you can stretch out your ~30min battery to cover a multi-hour flight.

Easy and solid attachment to airplane

This mount easily attaches to a Cessna 172 tie-down. You have to wiggle it a bit to get the large washers between the wing and tie-down but once they are next to the tie-down it is easy to finish screwing on. The pins on all screws keep it from falling off, although I've never had a problem with the thumbscrew coming loose.

The one problem I've had is getting the Ram mount tight enough to stop potential movement. It works but I do worry that the Ram mount will wiggle in flight.

It would be possible to build your own version of this for less, but having it as one complete, ready-to-go package was worth my money.

It would be great if there were versions, or links to options, to allow for additional features such as a telescoping attachment to get past the wing strut to not block the view of the pilot. I'm sure if I dig around the Ram options I can find something but would love to see pre-made options available.

It was relatively easy to attach and took only 3 minutes to line up the camera. The mount didn’t budge during out 120 knot flight. I’m super happy with the results. This is very helpful for perfecting your landings by framing the gear in the shot and understanding how your undercarriage looks during flare. You can get that outside the airplane shot facing the pilot. I can finally get the camera away from the prop for a clearer shot. The cotter pins can be stubborn but the safety they add is worth it! I’ll never use the mount without the pins in. I was able to use my other ram ball mounts, and with the ¼” 20 ball, I added a twisted safety wire from my cameras wrist strap ring and the mounts through bolt to stop any chance of the camera spinning off the ¼” 20 during flight.

It works, it is beautifully over engineered, customer service is second to none. After 40 years flying aircraft I know that anything else but the best is simply not good enough. There are suggestions that the GoPro suction mounts/3M helmet pads are sufficient, and they probably are 99% of the time - that is not good enough. I do not want to be worrying about my GoPro while I am flying or the consequences if it ends up somewhere it shouldn't!
From a purely consumer point of view I get fed up of cheap Far East imports, built to a price that work most of the time but there is always the gamble you get the dud. So it was a pleasure to open up the package to reveal a top quality product made from the best materials.
