I enjoy eating ramen, and noodles in general, and since the powers-that-be took away our lunch break, during the workday I end up surviving on microwave-only, or just-add-water items while sitting at my desk. I try to cycle through various brands and flavors and types.

I've had other Myojo noodles before (the boil-in-a-pot-at-home variety) and they've always tasted great.

The way this yakisoba is prepared is by first pulling open a designated corner to access the interior. You have to remove four small packets (seasoning/ingredients), lying on top of the dry noodles inside. You tear open and pour in the dried veggie packet. You pour in the boiling water...I used the hot water from a water cooler...and cover the top. It says to wait 3 minutes...I wait about 5 minutes since the water I'm using isn't as hot, but I guess it also depends on what you prefer for the consistency of your noodles. You then remove a sticker tab from the top, drain the noodles through the slits the sticker tab had covered, remove the top, and add and mix around the contents of the remaining three packets into the noodles and it's ready to eat. I hope I didn't make it sound like a complicated science experiment, but when you do it, it's actually pretty simple.

Their fill-and-drain packaging works well, I've had other noodle bowls where the drain holes/slits were too big and the noodles fall out into the sink, or the water doesn't drain out properly.

Flavor-wise, it's surprisingly good (from looking at the ingredients, it looks like it uses tuna product for flavor, not beef)...when I go out to eat, I order beef yakisoba, because the beef base provides the best flavor (or so I believe). My friend orders chicken yakisoba because she remembers some really tasty beef yakisoba her grandma used to make her, but she no longer eats beef. And the chicken yakisoba she orders always tastes bad (and she agrees).

If you're a meat-lover, this yakisoba could be even better if it had some sort of meat-like bits to add extra texture.

I have finally finished the final pack of this. I have some thoughts. Let's just start with pure taste. The sauce or whatever they have in here is delicious. The mayo has opened my eyes to the wonders of japanese mayo. I had a flashback to the last okonomiyaki I had, which was far too long ago. The four flavor packets contained within provide a lot of flavor and tricks you into thinking you are actually cooking, and the packaging is well designed (which you may think is a weird comment until you see it for yourself).

Before you read the negative part, I want to assure you that a.) I am by no means a health nut (since I ordered this in the first place) and b.) I am no stranger to gross food you eat out of desperation. Anyway - I give it three stars because contained within is 40% of your daily dose of fat for the day, 60% saturated fat, and 80% sodium, in one small package. I would normally see this with a bemused detachment, knowing that I do not eat it often, and will have spinach salad for dinner to balance it out. But the bad part of those nutrition facts doesn't disappear after I throw the package away and forget about the numbers. After eating this ramen, my day starts to spiral into sadness and regret. I'm tired, but too crabby to sleep. Why did I eat that ramen again? Why didn't I pack a lunch this morning? Why don't I think ahead? Why am I a failure in all things? The world starts fading away and as I realize it's going to happen all over again, I vow to throw the rest away. But it's too late. I am told that I shouldn't throw food away. That I might need it for an emergency. And maybe it was something else, not ramen related. When I vow to never throw it away, the quest is over but none of my original questions are answered and now I have heartburn.

So anyway, it is good. But I will never order it again.

Ordered this for my boyfriend, who initially tried this yakisoba after purchasing it from a local Japanese market. We went back after he fell in love and they didn't have any left! To Amazon I went... $33 leaves anyone a bit sticker shocked for some instant noodles but you get 12 instant meals for ~$2.75 each, which is less than what it goes for in most stores. Package arrived on time, and in good condition. Our noodles don't expire until November, and now that I've tried them they definitely won't be lasting that long...I only hope there's some left when we come back to order more.
So as far as the noodles go, easy to understand instructions and all you need is water. The packets that come inside say "cut" to open but you don't need scissors they're easy enough with your fingers. The vegetables that come are actually super yummy, and rehydrate very well. The sauce, which is labelled exactly that, is so good too. I added the mustard mayo hesitantly after trying just a bit in one bite. It changed the flavor of the dish, it was still good but I think depending on my mood I won't always use the mayo. This is much more satisfying than your every day Maruchan. I wish I could try the one that comes with garlic mayo :(
