Beautiful but frustrating

I'm a huge fan of this series, and have successfully played all of the proceeding games. Despite the beautiful graphics and sound, I found portions Uru's gameplay so frustrating, I eventually gave it up. This game, unlike the earlier games in the Myst series, requires you to complete physical tasks like jumping, kicking or climbing onto object in a very precise way that often doesn't make physical sense (why kick a log when my character should simply be able to bend down and pick it up?) For several tasks, I spent HOURS attempting to land my character just right or move a small object with the character's feet. I even asked other people who are perhaps more adept with hand/ eye coordination when it comes to video games to give it a try. Most gave up after 45+ minutes on a singular task. It's very frustrating because despite having a puzzle figured out, I couldn't complete a few simple tasks, and was unable to move on in the game's story. I have loved the Myst series because it allows me to relax and problem solve. If I wanted to land and jump on things precisely, I'd play Mario Brothers instead. It was enough to ruin the game for me. I'm disappointed this is the direction this series has taken.

URU is Cyan's best game since Riven. Absolutely fantastic! The mouse controls for PC are exceptional and super easy to handle - WAY better than any of their other games (including Obduction (which is very cumbersome)). The puzzles are challenging but not overly difficult. Love the inclusion of the expansion packs (To D'ni & Path of the Shell). Have played this so many times I've lost count. Building your own avatar is a really nice touch. Wish Cyan would add more to this - more areas of D'ni to explore, more books to add to my bookcase, more Relto pages to find, more puzzles to solve. If you loved MYST & Riven, and hated Myst V, then this is the game for you!

Like 20+ years ago my Dad bought me the original Myst game for PC...I remember being mesmerized by the walkthroughs and fantastic scenes...neat hidden and interesting puzzles to solve to get from one "World" to another...but this Complete URU is too kewl...Avatars you create define who you're looking' at when tromping through what seems like endless worlds accessed through what they call 'linking-books'...No violent shoot-em-ups or crash n' burns...just an intriguing romp through neat underground caverns or endless hallways and neat places...interesting scripts to read about a long-ago forgotten time and places that don't exist yet...develops a true kinship to time/space travel!

(the online version...well I'm not sure if its still accessible...was too kewl as well...where you could talk to other avatars and get tips and stuff real-time)...

I played this game for several weeks straight, pulled out all my hair, bit down all my nails and was left bleary-eyed. I had to wear sunglasses for several days whenever I went outside due to lack of sunlight while I was slumped infront of my computer. I still don't get this game. Now my computers won't play it because of my operating system. You are better off going outside with your children and spending time with your wife.

I'm a huge fan of these games. I started collecting them when Myst was first produced. This collection is fabulous, because it's three in one. Therefore, there are many more puzzles and more interesting geography to solve and explore! Well worth the money. The one negative thing I noticed is that sometimes the game is a tad difficult to play because it has two different perspectives, but one can toggle between the two so the bulk of the time it's a non-issue. However, there are some areas of the game that can only be played in one perspective, and I didn't enjoy that. But it's pretty minimal, just a personal pet peeve.

I purchased a cd-rom game from CdromUSA and it does not install and has no directions (the picture showed a box that you would normally buy at a store containing the disk,and directions but all I received was a disk by itself). I contacted the seller approximately 4 times regarding this item, tried to resolve the installation issues per their advice. Nothing worked. I asked for an address to return the item and was told "no refunds" and that I must have gotten a faulty disk. They promised a replacement at the beginning of May and I have not received anything. I have sent an email since then regarding the new disk shipment and received no reply. I will NEVER order anything from this company again. I just want a refund!!!!

I don't see why this is up for review. I got this a long time ago and enjoyed it. I recently bought the KickStarter version that just came out this year that has all of the Myst games that work on Windows 10. So I'm slowly getting used to this classic puzzle game, of which I remember some of the clues and answers.

I think I've played 99% of the Myst games made by Cyan. I'm quite the fan and enjoy the highly challenging puzzles they're known for placing in the Myst series of games. The games can last a long time depending on how much of a wiz you are at placing all the clues together and solving puzzles. One recommendation, though---if you ARE new to this series, I'd recommend playing the original Myst first and then tackling the others that follow, in order, as they tend to build on the previous games. Overall, great purchase!
