Gr 7 Up—This first manga series installment is a fantastical foray into teenage sexuality with a dose of feminist superhero antics. Tsubaki is a typical teen boy: a sophomore in high school, he still hasn't had his first kiss. He obsesses about what his future girlfriend might be like and is immediately infatuated with Urabe, the mysterious new girl in school. Everyone notices something peculiar about Urabe: she laughs uncontrollably at inopportune times and can never stay awake in class. Tsubaki finds her asleep after class one day and wakes her so that she doesn't miss her bus home. After she leaves, he notices a puddle of drool on her desk. Overcome with curiosity, he decides to taste it. Then things really start to get weird. Urabe's drool holds a mysterious power that Tsubaki gradually becomes aware of over the course of the series. What happens next is part normal teenage romance, part mysterious surrealism. The series also touches on topics such as feminine power and consent, which makes it an excellent read for individuals of all ages but especially teens who are navigating their entry into the dating world. The artwork is beautifully executed in traditional manga style, complementing the plot. VERDICT A fun read with complex story lines, realistic character development, and surreal elements that will appeal to teen and adult manga fans alike.—Marian Mays, Washington Talking Book & Braille Library
About the Author
Riichi Ueshiba (aka Reach Ueshiba; born 1969) is a veteran comic artist from the southern Japanese city of Fukuoka.
His early days as a comic artist were developed while he was going to the prestigous Waseda University in Tokyo back in 1990. After his second year in college, over summer break, Ueshiba took his first step into the realm of professional comics by writing the script for what would become his hit debut work Discommunication. He would then submit the work to Kodansha's Chiba Tetsuya Contest for New Artists、And to his surprise the short would go on to pick up the General Award for their 1991 edition granting him the option to be signed up to work on a series for the publisher.
His latest work Mysterious Girlfriend X was adapted into an animated TV series distibuted in the US by Sentai Films.

The Bluray is the fast-paced piece of art because the story begins, processes and ends within 13 Episodes. I was convinced and fell in love with the voice actors, the colorful student/love life and the simple yet beautiful artwork. However, for all it had to provide, I didn't feel enough. The anime concluded an emptiness in me with a lot of opening question. Was that all? Why did it end so fast? Would there be season 2 coming up?
Now the manga was released in U.S in English (I like but I can't comprehend the Kanji) .It's great to see that the total series contains 12 volume with 404 pages for each book. Yeah, the total are 4848 pages with a lot of things and details to be explored in Tsubaki's life and his girlfriend. The artwork is in classic style yet with complicated and highly details background, sometimes. As an ordinary manga reader, I judge the the style based on the character's eyes, the variant of these eyes and appearance of each character separate them with another manga. None of that have found in this series. It makes me confuse some characters with each other. There's slightly different from them all but take a little attention and small time to make that distinguish.
This vol. 1 totally wins over me, as each page proceeds, my memory and experience had been woken up again, now in black and white. What will the future behold in this series? I couldn't wait to buy and see them own with my very own eyes.
Well, let's read them and judge them yourself in your own ways.
For anyone who doesn't know anything about "Mysterious Girlfriend X", I'd say to try before you buy. The anime series follows the manga note-for-note (it mixes around some of the one-chapter stories, but the overall spirit of the work is the same) so if you like the first few episodes of that, you'll probably like the manga. Crunchyroll has both manga and anime on their site right now, but some is only available to subscribers. As for me, I read fan-translations of the manga that I found... somewhere.
If you like MGX, I'd encourage you to buy the print version. It's worth it, and I don't want the publishers to discontinue it before it's all released.
This is a Story about young love and trials and oddness that goes along with it, it also involves the exchange of Saliva or Drool but not in the normal way.
This is a story that is better experienced than spoiled so all I'm going to say is that this is one of my favorite manga's and I hope more people get to experience it due to the release.
I want to thank Vertical Comics for taking a chance on this and I've already preordered volumes 2 and 3
