Okay, I get that she has to research her subject before writing a complete obituary. But, come one! She interviews all the people involved with the murder. Maybe TOO deeply! But, she won't go to the police, because the constable in charge is inept. So she takes it upon herself to go to great lengths to find out all there is to know about the person who got murdered to the point where then SHE almost gets killed. I kept waiting for her to go the the constable. but, nope STILL she won't go to the constable. Thought if she was going to get that involved, somewhere along the way, she should have worked with police a bit more. Regardless of what she thought of them Killer gets apprehended.. yay. And she writes the obituary. A very bland obituary considering all her research ! This is the second book. I know it's a cozy mystery ... but, still, was hoping for more. And that's my two cents.
I really like this series! Well thought out, meticulous detail, strong characters, enough "red herrings" that keeps the reader on the edge. Clues, but so well done, I do not figure out who did it until the big reveal. I sure hope to see more stories in this series. A fun read, an exciting read.

This book was so much fun reading, so much going on and great characters. It was so easy to get caught up in the moment of each mystery. I can't wait to get into the next book of this great series and was excited to find a fourth book will be added in December. I pre ordered that one for sure as this has been one of the best series I've read. Thanks for sharing your talent with readers who love quality writing.
This is the second book in a series featuring the main character, Eve Marlow and her canine pal Gus. The setting is a quaint English village and Eve along with best friend, Viv and the mysterious gardener, Robin set out to solve the latest murder. It’s a light read to enjoy curled up in your favorite chair or sitting under an umbrella on a warm sunny day. I highly recommend.
I'm loving the Eve Mallow books. They don't have the plot errors, grammar errors, or annoyingly stupid actions of the heroine like many of the cozy crime books. Really really worth a read and these really are books you just want to keep reading but at the same time you don't want to get to the end...
Book 2 in the Eve Mallow mystery series and one I have really enjoyed, and now look forward to the next. Clare is a very clever writer and although her stories are quite involved with many names to keep in mind, she has the extraordinary ability to keep all those names and places in the forefront of your mind so that one does not have to keep going back to see who is who or where they fit into the story - well done Clare.
Mystery at apple tree cottage was one of those books where you say I’ll just finish this chapter but three chapters later and so it goes on loved it so many twists and turns looking forward to more stories about Eve and the other characters in the village

One of the four book series - all splendid easy reads keeps the reader riveted from start to finish hopefully with more to come. A pleasant twist to the single lady amateur sleuth - gentle humour and entertaining plots
I love the twists and turns in Clare’s stories. Just when I think I’ve solved the crime she throws another spanner in the works. Best part of Clare’s books, so far anyway, no swearing, sex or violence (apart from the murdered victims but Clare doesn’t go into the gory details).
