New York Times bestselling author Joel Richardson carefully explores what is arguably the greatest prophetic mystery in all of the Bible.
Mystery Babylon is an in-depth look at the prophecy of Revelation 17 and 18. Richardson dissects the longest prophecy in the New Testament – the final chapters of the Bible – in order to make sense of these deeply elusive and profoundly controversial passages.
At once a queen, a prostitute, and a cold-blooded killer, this great harlot waves a golden cup filled with blood. Adorned in purple and scarlet and gold and precious stones, she seduces the kings of the earth with luxury. Most commonly known, perhaps, is that she rides a beast with seven heads and ten horns. Her title is Mystery, Babylon the Great, the mother of all harlots and of the abominations of the earth.
From the early days of Christianity, believers have struggled to understand the mystery of the great harlot. Scholars and students alike have arrived at many different conclusions.
In his characteristically easy-to-understand style, Richardson works through the history of Christian interpretation of Mystery Babylon, weighing the strengths and weaknesses of each view, making a powerful case for a solution to this prophecy that will rock the prophecy world.

Once again, best selling author Joel Richardson connects the geo-political and prophetic dots and presents a compelling, straightforward, and redemptive case for one of the Bible's most enigmatic prophecies. If you want to understand the times like the Sons of Issachar, I heartily recommend Joel's latest excellent work! --Marvin J. Rosenthal, Executive Director, Zion's Hope
Joel Richardson has provided us with an important and very systematic work, laying out the possibilities of who or what is the identity of "Mystery Babylon." This book will definitely make you rethink your previously held positions. --Pastor Mark Biltz

A highly recommended read for anyone with an interest in biblical end times prophecy or who is just trying to make sense of the current state of affairs with regards to the Middle East.
This book really is one book regarding the "Mystery, Babylon" of Revelation that can be argued puts all the pieces of the description of the prophesy together. And, they all fit.
I do fear for Joel Richardson though and he should be included in the prayers of those who follow his ministry. Why? He pulls no punches and names names in this book. Names of very powerful and very dangerous people. However, nothing he writes in this book could be even considered untrue. Everything that he writes in this book is right out there for anyone with eyes to see and does a little checking and piece together as accurate.
I think we can see the Mystery or the Babylon of Revelation unfold in this book. Joel has done his homework and it has taken him years to put it all together. I would recommend his YouTube channel Joel Richardson's "The Underground." There, he keeps you up-to-date.
Richardson does a nice job of demolishing the theory that Rome (or the revived Roman empire) is a fulfillment of Revelation 17 and 18. He also easily dismisses some other minor unconvincing theories about what these chapters teach. Finally, he makes a strong (but not ultimately compelling) case for Mecca and Saudi Arabia as the final fulfillment of "mystery Babylon." But there are a few weaknesses in his theory:
1) Early in the book he strongly emphasizes that "mystery Babylon" is a city, but then fails to deal adequately with the limitations of looking upon Mecca itself as fulfilling all that is said about that city in Revelation 17 and 18. Instead, he turns to Saudi Arabia as a whole.
2) His chapter, "The Mother of All Harlots" is an attempt to undermine belief in literal Babylon (in Iraq) fulfilling the prophecies of mystery Babylon by claiming that "mother of" means the greatest, major, or the best. That expression is, granted, a modern idiom with that meaning, but it is not used that way in the Bible. In the Bible, when the expression "mother of" or "father of" is used idiomatically, it implies origin of (see, for examples, Gen. 3:20; 4:20; Gal. 4:26; Rom. 4:16), making ancient Babylon a much more likely meaning of the harlot city than Mecca.
3) His critique of literal Babylon (chapter 16) fulfilling the prophecy is inadequate. Not wanting to take literally some verses that point to Babylon itself, he is reduced to claiming that such verses are "intended to be understood more as hyperbole than as a rigidly literal description" (p. 176). His treatment of Zechariah 5:5-11 (in which Shinar, the ancient name for Babylon is used) is also unconvincing.
Ultimately, I am left with my original belief: However unprepossessing Babylon in Iraq seems today, the Bible still points to that region in Iraq as the final fulfillment of Revelation 17 and 18. However, In spite of my earlier criticisms, this book is a serious and important work packed with fascinating information by a careful scholar who deserves to be read. Especially don't neglect to read his amazing chapters on "The Nimrod Myth," "Alexander Hislop's Two Babylons," and chapter 21: "Corruptor of Kings."
I have studied the Bible for 40 years now. Much of it memorized. Psalms and New Testament mostly... My point is I love God's Word. There is much He has revealed to me directly. For that I am thankful and full of love for Him. Other parts, He has revealed His word through others. For that I am also thankful. The Lord has give Joel special insight into End Times prophecy. He makes the complicated simple, there is no need to force things here. It makes sense. For example, the 7 heads, and the 10 kings. Always a mystery to me. Now it is very clear.
Bottom line: Do yourself a favor and go down this road with Joel. Your eyes will be opened, and your walk with God will take on the urgency that these times call for.

I John 4:3 tells us that the spirit of antichrist does not confess Jesus. Consider which major religion aggressively denies the God the Son, and ask yourself where the geographical heart of this religion is located and you will know where Joel Richardson thinks Mystery Babylon is. Anyone who believes the study of the Scriptures is key to understanding the future unfolding of the Lord's plans and wants a bold and honest analysis of this prophecy will not regret reading this book. . . .
Furthermore Richardson's appeal to the reader's response at the end shows that he writes in love and compassion for those who follow Islam, and demonstrates a Godly perspective on the issue.
