I love mysteries and intriguing clues that lead the characters from one adventure to the next. Let me tell you, C.S. Poe did NOT disappoint.
Book 2 picks-up a few weeks after the end of Book 1. I love the C.S. Poe has used P.T. Barnum and his museum theater for the historical narratives and clues for Book 2. I love that Sebastian has a weakness for mysteries and he can vomit crazy random facts. I love that Calvin wants him to stop “trying to help solve his cases” but (I believe) really understands that Sebastian just can’t help it.
This book starts with a crash and ends a bang. But it’s all the little dialogue and details in between that keeps you turning the page and invested in the Sebastian & Calvin’s adventures. Also, I am in love with C.S. Poe’s writing style and in awe of her ability to string together sentences that make me feel as if I’m watching a movie. So beautiful and descriptive…yeah maybe I’m little jealous (LOL).
But in all seriousness – I highly highly recommend this series and cannot for Snow & Winter Book 3!!!
**ARC received from author/publisher in exchange for honest review**
I was so excited to win an ARC of this book! I loved the first book and was eagerly awaiting this to be released! I immediately gobbled it up! This is my absolute favorite book so far this year and it will take quite the book to overthrow it.
I have loved mysteries since I was little and read Nancy Drew. I would try to find a mystery in my neighborhood with my friends but nothing ever happened. The situations Sebastian gets himself into remind me of those stories I used to read but in a very grown up form. I love that he says he is sleuthing! I've only really read that word in Nancy Drew books.
Sebastian is an amazing character who is just such a different and refreshing MC. He is extremely smart and I could just read about the facts he knows! Unfortunately he gets cut off but I am interested in his knowledge!!!
I adore the relationship between Sebastian and Calvin. Calvin is the big, tough detective and veteran but he's so vulnerable. He loves Sebastian so much and poor Calvin gets rung through the ringer when Sebastian is sleuthing! He wants to keep Sebastian safe, especially with all he's seen and lost while in Afghanistan. It's so hard for him to talk about his PTSD but Sebastian wants to help him so badly!
I loved this mystery and the way it tied into PT Barnum. I was fascinated! I couldn't stop reading but I didn't want to read it to quickly!!!
I am looking forward to more from these wonderful, sweet and sexy men!!!!
That's because Sebastian is a bit of a snarky fuss budget and Simon--while exceptionally neat--is just a big cuddly hound. The fact that Simon has a color-blindness issue brings more nuance to the mystery solving--and heat to the romance--than one might expect as well. There's a lot of giggles and snorts here, and all to the good because this is a bloody tale.
There are a host of supporting characters here, including Sebastian's wonderfully supporting Pop and his increasingly interesting assistant Max (spin him off, please, Ms. Poe), and a mystery which you might solve midway through--but like the previous book in the series, you will be wrong.
Nice take on a completely unique and totally lovable couple--and a ripping tale as well.
I think this series stands on it own, and does a damn good job doing it! I found that this book had more excitement than the last, a little more fast paced, little more "deviousness" in our villain and I loved that. The development of Max was perfect....his personality really got chance to shine and he was a great sidekick for Seb. The end, was just soooo damn cute. Shucks, can't wait for the next one!
Poe keeps an edge to her stories balanced with humor and nothing is better then Sebastian and Calvin. May goodness what chemistry these two have for each other. They brought tears to my eyes in their devastation and laughter and giggles from some of the antics of Sebastian. Their love is tight and grows stronger. Their heated passion only got hotter and the sex...well it was over the top.
I highly recommend these two books to anyone. A great mystery with romance. I's hoping there will be a third book.
