I was attracted to the Mandala coloring books for their meditative and intricate patterns, and while reading all the reviews and looking at the customer photos, decided to try this one. This book has a lot of variety which I'm sure will keep me occupied and away from the computer for hours! I've only begun one Mandala, but I must say, it's really a lot of fun.
As others have mentioned, the book is printed on both sides of the paper - but my guess is the books would be more expensive if printed only one-sided. Indeed, I did pay a bit more for a one-sided coloring book within this same order, and I see other one-sided books on Amazon that go for $7 and up. So, keep in mind, this is a price selling point (I assume). One can always (as I have done) scan and copy the designs to the computer, and use them ad infinitum.
I'm pleased with my purchase and my new hobby. I really do love the designs in this book. Not sure this book would be suitable for kids under the age of 10 - or any kid who is not into intricate coloring using various mediums. But for an adult looking for a past time that harkens back to the days of our youth, this book and other similar adult coloring books are simply perfect.
I was not luckier with pencils as they ruin the underside design too, maybe I press too hard and you will be OK. Some people copy the designs but I did not like the feel of my copy paper when I colored on it. Creative Haven is my go to choice now as they only print on one side. I have given this book 4 stars for the art, not for the finished book
I did NOT get this book for free nor for a discount so you get my unbiased opinion.
Not every picture is fantastic but the majority of them are wonderful. There are very few I actually dislike.
I really like the quality of this paper. My pens do not run or smear like other papers do.
I can see myself ordering this book again when I get done coloring the last page.
I have tried both colored pencils as well as gel pens and love the way they both work out. The colors end up very bright and vibrant or very soft and beautiful. This book has got me addicted.
I would recommend this to anyone that enjoys coloring.
The mandalas in this book are very beautiful and the designs are so intericate they remind me of works of art you see in a museum. I like to use color pencils so the double page design doesn't detract from the book for me at least. I liked that there were a few examples of what finished mandalas look like. As someone who is still fairly new to mandalas.
Update for Dec 2017
Since buying this Mandala book in February of 2014 (and leaving review that I thought was for Amazon and the author. Not actually published on site.)
I have gone on to re-purchase this book several more times for gift giving. After developing a preference for gel pens in adult coloring. I returned to purchase two copies of this book to remove the pages since this book has a double page design. Although that's fine when using color pencils, it actually isn't a great design feature for anyone who enjoys using a wet media for coloring. Especially if there are designs you wish to keep after your finished
While I'm now of the opinion that this book would benefit from a single-sided book format. For colorist versatility. It still a 5* book in my estimation based upon how I've witnessed others receive it as well as my first impression of the book. I would highly recommend this book to others.
