I was quite surprised by this book, why? Well it's goes like this, I was sure that this short read was going to be a mind numbing excursion about how the hot guy suddenly likes the new girl who in turn, never spoke before he came back from the dead. I was sicken by that turn of events, and in truth, I wanted to stop reading. But the whole coming back from the dead thing kept me reading. I'm glad I didn't DNF this book, it took a different turn and for the better. I can't say why, because common, that would ruin the whole story, but I will say that there's a reason for why the hot guy is so interest in Presley, and, he isn't the only one.
Presley, she's okay, not great but okay. The real star was Sam. He's the guy you always root for, and this time all that cheering pays off. I don't know what it is latly but, I'm all for the male leads. I wonder what this story would've been like if told from Sam's POV or even split POV. I feel like so much more could have happen, explained or blew up if we heard his thoughts, or the fights with his dad. Sam always seemed to know more. He's calculated, perceptive, and cool headed. He stole the show for me and made this story.
The twist a turns were mushed at the end, and I felt that these events could have taken place earlier in the story. The first half of the story was a little too drawn out for me; too much filler not enough to action. As for action, it was all at the end. The last 40% of the book was fast, heart racing and bittersweet. The ending was great, it answered all questions, but it wasn't your typical happy ever after, so much was left open, almost for a second book or a spin off... Fingers crossed.
In all this is a original work of fiction and is worth your time to read. Once I was passed the initial boy meets girl.. Yada yada yada, the story was captivating, heart pounding, and frightening. The writing was done beautifully. The tone was light but shrouded in darkness to match the mystery surrounding the town and the sudden resurrection of the dead. I felt on edge reading, and that unease stayed with me till the bittersweet ending, even now it's still lingers because of how the "problem"was solved. It's a matter of do I agree, or should I agree. To stir such feelings is the reason I read.
I highly recommend this read, Is has touched my heart and I want the world to know what an phenomenal book Shari Arnold has created. I thank you for fabricated this stunning otherworldly piece of fiction that kick me right in the feels. I do hope there is more, I really want to know how Presley makes out.
Mystique is the definition of YA THRILLER. This is how you do YA paranormal/thriller people!! The first chapter took my breath away. I've been holding my breath throughout reading, if I have to be honest. Shari Arnold definitely knows what she's doing. You don't just read her words, you feel it. You experience it. One moment I'm reading in my nook and the next thing I know I'm in this town called Mystique, solving the weird happenings with our heroine, Presley. Trust me when I say, YOU WILL NEVER GET BORED. There is no 'filler chapter', there's no lagging and there's just no chapter that will let go of you. You will be at the edge of your seat, like me, you won't stop until you find out the answers.
Mystique gives something new in this genre. Yes, it is about zombies. But Shari Arnold have her own version of zombies and they won't just scare you, but they will also mystify you. The whole idea of Mystique is really worthy of applause, combine it with Shari Arnold's brilliant writing, you got an outstanding novel.
Presley and the gang is one set of characters that will surely leave you wounded. Why? They make you want to crave for more. These characters are alive and will own your emotions the whole time you're reading.
Mystique have an amazing story to tell, and you don't want to miss it. The writing is glorious, the characters are authentic and every page of this book just keeps on getting better and better. If you still haven't found your 2015 favorite, then Mystique is for you. This page turner is definitely a must read!
Mystique is a place where people that are dying go, hoping for a second chance in life. Since Bauer Grant woke up from the dead at his own funeral, people won’t stop coming to Mystique. Mystique became the most popular place for people to visit and it became so pack of people until the military closed up the town. When Bauer woke up all he wanted was Presley, he needed to be near her. With Sam’s help, he got what he wanted. Presley felt like the luckiest girl in the world, knowing how much Presley wanted her. But as Presley’s visit became less and less, the closer she got with Sam. Sam was as gorgeous as his best friend Bauer was, he was sweet and very smart. Sam was so nice to Presley and all he wanted was to take care of her. He would do anything for Presley, even if it meant giving up what he wanted with Presley to keep his best friend happy. After being together so much, staying together to find out the mystery around the town, they became closer. The closer they got, the further away Presley became from Bauer. Will Presley figure out who she really wants to be? Will Presley and Sam figure out the mystery that’s been happening in their little town? Read it and find out.
This was such an interesting read and so different. Author Shari Arnold never disappoints. She keeps you glued to every story she writes. And Sam. Wow, what a guy. Sam definitely got me hooked on him throughout their crazy journey to freedom. Love this.
