This cd is my first sampling of The Aquabats, a group I have heard so much about. I don't know what to say other than these cats have blown my mind, from their lyrics to their costumes to their over-the-top suburban presences. Singing about topics from school lunches to backyard pool parties, The Aquabats have taken the nerdiest aspects of suburbia, and magically transformed them into "Cool, Daddy, Cool!"
How does one classify the music of The Aquabats? They cover so many realms! In the opening sequence "Robot Theme Song," I immediately felt the aura of "The Moog Synthesizer" sound that people like like Gershon Kingsley and Stan Free made popular in the 1960s and 70s. The third track "Pool Party" begins with two "Hang Loose" type dudes talking on the phone, getting ecstatic over an evening pool party, raving about the "Food, Girls, MORE FOOD!," then shifting into a song with that perky 80s ska-beat. The song "Pizza Day" will bring back memories of the school lunch menus that all us suburban children memorized in elementary school (the lyrics also remind us of junior high, when the school lunch menu suddenly becomes uncool!). And then we have "I Fell Asleep On My Arm," which had me doubled over; it's an agonizing account of a student falling asleep on his arm, and waking up to find the limb went numb. The Aquabats play and sing this song in the same ultra-angst-ridden vein as a song like "Pray For Death!"
The Aquabats are a great wake up call to middle class folks who grow up thinking they have become too cool for suburbia to even admit to being part of it. This cd is pure fun with absolutely no empty filler songs. Pick it up, you will be glad you did!

So, I'm sure that all the cool hardcore Aquabats fans have enjoyed and loved this CD to no end.
Not only does it feature their wacky and obscure ska style, but also a very nice return to their musical roots.
For most though, this will remain nothing more then a CD they have never heard of, perhaps even a band that they will never even know, and that is a shame.
The Aquabats are a band that is much different from your every day Korn or Limp Bisket, they dare to try different styles of music and express their humor in ways that other artist wouldn't even dream about.
This album is no exception.
First off, all fans of ska or Devo will love this immediatly, and will be propmpted to buy their other albums (to which they should unless they already have). But for those of you who listen to rap, or pop, or rock, or even techno, you're gonna have a hard time realizing what you're listening to when you pop this CD in.
Imagine a band that doesn't care about appearance (they dress as Superheros for goodness sake). A band that takes music to a stunning and energetic level, without even having a string of curse words or profuse explenations of horrid actions. In a way, that is their greatest talent, keeping you happy and putting a smile on your face. The Bats are masters at this, and their music makes you come out of even the most sober moods.
Imagine the exact opposite of Moby.
So, for all the hardcore fans of the Bats, this is the CD of the year, maybe even for the next few years (or till they release the next). For all the other music fans, the lovers of Korn...or rap, or whatever it is that fires you up, you won't know unless you give it a try. The worst that could happen is that you actually laugh out loud.

The Aquabats have saved the world once again! "Myths, Legends . . . " is a great compilation of various Aquabat music.
Here are some reviews of the songs:
Robot Theme Song: A short and catchy song with no lyrics.
Hey Luno: This is on my top-five list for this CD. It's about a cartoon flying horse, and has the surfer-rock feel. The horn section in this song is awesome.
Pool Party: A carefree song about, well, a pool party. It's very catchy.
Pizza Day: Another one on my top five list. It's got some witty lyrics. The song is about school nostalgia. I like the horn riffs.
Dear Spike: This song would be number six if I had a top ten. It's about one of the band members getting a cadet package (for more info, visit [...]
I Fell Asleep On My Arm: I think that some people have been interpreting this song incorrectly. This is not meant to be more Korn for people. It's a satire, not some pit-moshing song. It's pretty funny when you compare it to real Korn/Limpbizkit songs.
Radiation Song: "The radiation in the ground makes a lovely, bubbly sound." The song opens up with that line, and many more funny lyrics.
Adventure Today: My favorite song on the album, hands down. It's based on the Goonies, of all things. The guitars, lyrics, and horns are all great. This is a great song!
The Baker: This sounds like it's from "Les Miserables." It's got a horn solo at the beginning, and it's about a baker and why he bakes his bread.
Danger Woman: Another one of my favorites. No horns, but some catchy lines. It's Danger woman!
Worms Make Dirt: This is a synth-heavy song about how worms do their thing. Although silly, it's a good song.
Sandy Face: This song has some very funny lyrics.
