Of all the multi-component organic chemistry "starter kits", NANSHIN's most expensive kit was by far the best choice. It had most of what is needed in glassware to perform the majority of reactions. Missing critical glassware that must be also purchased, in my opinion, is as follows:[PURCHASED IN ANOTHER NANSHIN COMBO KIT FOR SUCTION FILTERING: one 350mL volume x 70mm diameter Buchner funnel with vacuum takeoff, box of 100 QUALITATIVE 70mm filter papers, a 2 foot Nylon 0.5"ID tube, 1 plastic Keck clamp 24#, & 1 L Erlenmeyer flask] a medium-large volume (300-1000 mL) Buchner funnel, with vacuum takeoff port]; I strongly believe the addition of a medium-small pore diameter box of QUANTITATIVE 100 filter papers needed inclusion in this kit (not a component of the kit being reviewed), and I was very misled by the kit's title, which to me implied I was buying both a 1 L flask *and* a I L Buchner funnel with 70mm diameter. I was so confident of this "fact" that I did not feel the need to check for "see more product details." If only I had been more paranoid! Beyond the Buchner funnel, one needs a *GOOD / WELL-RESEARCHED* suction machine (The manual vacuum pump is ok for very short term use, but be prepared to spend $50-$200 on a good machine [2-phase if you can afford. do NOT employ the 2' tube or, when your hand gets tired, you will pull it slightly, knock it over, and perhaps shatter one or both glass components]), silicone gel (Look up what brands will work well or you will be ripped off), stainless Keck clamps (for hot reactions that melt plastic), more thermometers (going up to 600C) necessitating an electronic one (plus the needed borosilicate adapter for its probe), other adapters making sure that you ONLY use 24/40 joint size unless absolutely forced to deviate (which then requires an adapter to convert the undesired size to 24/40), a 500 mL addition funnel ($49), a 250mL anti-splash/climb 24/40 adapter, and, eventually, a Friedrichs Condenser ($160+) [very high quality].. Then you need corks, verticle poles with heavy bases, boss heads and various types of apparatus clamps, the correct type of tubing (silicon, PTFE, or Teflon tubing for vacuum tubinb, long enough to reach from your lab to the outdoors with slack, Safety equip: eyewash, nitrile or superexpensive gloves. All products here were top quality, free of flaws.
