Decent tumbler so long as you don't follow directions

This tumbler does fine for what it is. The main thing is to not follow any of the directions or use any of the included objects. Just use the tumbler and ignore everything else. Also don't go to any higher speed than 1. Yes, the directions say use speed 3. Don't. Speed 1 is already too fast. Don't go faster.

Why should you not use the included items?
Well.
1) This is a 3 pound tumbler. There's only 1 pound of rocks included.
To get a good tumble you need to at least fill it 2/3rds full (i.e. you would need AT LEAST double the amount of rocks, if not triple -- the rocks will lose volume as they go, meaning you'll have less and less rocks to take up space as time goes on). Not only that, the mix of stones is not of similar hardness. If one were to dump the included amount in, not only would it not fill the tumbler enough to get an effective tumble, but the harder stones would absolutely obliterate the softer ones.
Also to note: most of the included stones were not really of a good enough size or quality to tumble, even if they were of similar hardness. Many were tiny chips or shards. Some were so badly cut that they wouldn't polish up well at all. Not great candidates for making it all the way to the end.
2) The included grit is both not enough and also not really useable due to having no indication as to what you're using or how coarse each step actually is. Even if you WERE provided that information, to get an effective tumble, you would need a great deal more than what is provided. It would be very difficult to achieve your desired results with so little product. Visually, all stages seem to be silicon carbide. This will not effectively polish your stones in the final steps, no matter how hard you try, even if you DID have enough. Additionally, the included gemfoam seems to do nothing to improve the situation.
Just go ahead and get a set of tumbling grit from The Rock Shed or Polly Plastics and include some ceramic pellets for cushioning. Follow their directions instead.
3) The included booklet is really only good for IDing the rocks that were included in the one pound bag. Other than that, the directions and suggestions are garbage and the little blurbs beside the gems have a bit more woo than I personally am happy with (lots of "people believe this stone has (x healing property) etc"). Meh to that.

End takeaway: The speeds they suggest are inappropriately high, plus, as stated above, the included objects are inappropriately proportioned and mixed. Get yourself a decent amount of stones from elsewhere, augment with the proper grit, keep the speed on 1, and follow literally any other directions, and you'll be golden. It's a decent tumbler in and of itself. It's also comparatively quiet, for a tumbler. This is probably due to the rubber barrel. Good purchase all in all.

Worth it definitely quieter than 98% of rock tumblers

Works very well. It does not leak when used properly always make sure that the meeting place between the lid and the rubber cylinder that holds the tumbling rocks is free from water and "rock mud". I typically just use a damp paper towel and that works perfectly. It uses very little power, much quieter than it's alternatives. The timer is just awesome makes things very set it and let it do it's job. Follow the directions(yes read them they are reasonably short and give great tips). Just have fun with it. For Better Results: patience is key, put rocks of about the same size together, if you can put rocks of roughly the same hardness together it does make a difference. All of that can be learned with time though. In short I love it, the rocks/crystals will come out amazing. I've even put rocks I found just outside in the wilderness in it and found some real beauties by mistake. Accidentally found some raw tigers eye that I am currently polishing out now will post pictures in about a month from now.

The minute it arrived at my door I tore in and set it up, read through the instructions and got it started, set the unit for 9 days and walked out the door to see family. Not even 4 hours later I got a message from my roommate letting me know that it had burst open and made a huge mess. I was.. dismayed. I had been so excited and thought I had followed instructions and left plenty of room in the barrel.. Luckily I had read the reviews about the customer service and decided to contact them. They requested a photo of the box and IMMEDIATELY sent me a replacement barrel and gave me a tracking number. I was impressed with how quickly they responded and how easy it was! Just a side note, it VERY WELL could have been user error. But I got the barrel, I have been running a new batch of rocks for a few days and have had NO ISSUES what so ever. Knowing that they will take care of any issues that may possibly come up gives me peace of mind and I absolutely LOVE my unit. I got the pro with gemfoam btw. I ended up putting a little pad under the unit to make it even quieter but it's not nearly as loud as the one I had as a child. Definitely worth every penny if you're on the fence about it.

I originally had the Nat Geo hobby tumbler, but after several years it finally wore out. I also wanted something a little more durable as it is on almost 24x7. I've tried several other rock tumblers and they all end up with broken belts after a week or two. They claim the barrel is overloaded, but I never fill it more than halfway and I never had a problem with the original Nat Geo model for years. This one is a little bigger and can hold more, though I still try not to overload it. It's still on the original belt after several months. Highly recommended brand.

I now have 3 1lb barrel machine rock tumblers and 1 3lb barrel machine. By far the 1lb machine is worth its weight, my 3lb machine has crewed 2 of my belts that came with my machines while my original 1lb machine is still on its og belt to this date. I also tried the 3lb barrel on my 1lb machine and it runs fine ( I DO NOT RECOMMEND YOU DO THIS USE YOUR MACHINE PROPERLY TO AVOID ANY DAMAGE ) while my 3lb machine is now a door stopper.

Bought as a present the National Geographic Proffesional rock tumbler appeared to be the ideal gift and the rubber barrel appeared good value for money when compared with others. On opening the box it contains everything you would need to tumble, polish and shine the rocks, semi precious stones and crystals into beautiful objects. The process is made by NG's very easy to follow as 123 process and offers good results. Of the four tumbling processes we got to number 3 before we noted the rubber drive belt started to continually come off. On further investigation I could see a fine black dust where the tumbler was standing and identified the issue as poor quality large wheel that was very sharp and as such with every turn cut away at the drive belt until the side was flattened and would no longer stay in place and come off following a single turn. Not sure if this was the 🍋 in the basket but I could only see the spare replacement drive belt supplied may follow the same pattern of excelerated ware and decided to return the tumbler. As this product has increased in price since purchased I am now looking for a better quality replacement without all the extras. The NG Pro was a good all-rounder let down by some poor finish plastic component.

I won't include a photo as it looks just like the photo. I bought this for my 13 year old son for Christmas and we've run some batches through it. It takes about 4-5 weeks to do all the steps so it takes time which is good. It isn't too loud. We did it in the basement and didn't see any issues in the rest of the house.

Advantages
-Rubberized tumbling canister for durability and quietness
-Easy to use
-Comes with everything you need (we ordered more grit after as there is only enough for about 2 batches)
-Comes with jewelry parts to put the stones in.

Disadvantages
-The lid can be hard to get off. It seals itself on well. We had to pry the lid open a couple of times to get it off. You have to be really gentle or you can damage the seal.
-The lid can be finicky to get on. One time we must not have got it on quite right and the thing burst open when we were away, made a mess on the table, and almost damaged the machine. So, you should check on it daily. You also need to ensure there is no grit stuck around the lid to ensure a good fit.
-The belt for the machine is very small and the gears for it are plastic. I think this part should be more durable.

I wish they sent more stones to tumble in the kit and more grit. Otherwise, knowing what I know now I would still buy the machine and do recommend it. Just watch for these points and you will be fine.

There is nothing to dislike about this tumbler, for the price compared to other AND being a hobbyist it suits us very well. My husband has had a stroke so can no longer do the things he used to I use this hobby to give him,

3. To give him something to look forward to doing like, searching for pebbles etc
The excitement he gets from ‘opening the tumbler’ is lovely to watch, he loves what comes out.
Later on this year he hopes and I hope he can start to use some tools to cut stones.
He has lost 50% of his sight so it is going to be a big learning curve.
This tumbler is just so easy for him to use and not to noisy either. We put it on a small carpet and that seems to work well.
