Each day of December as the holiday approaches, kids will open a fun experiment to conduct or a fossil or gemstone specimen from our world-class science kits. The fun and excitement culminate on the final day, as kids unearth a shimmering pyrite (fool's gold) specimen from the included mini dig brick.

This educational science kit includes the following science experiments: Magic Beaker, Glowing Test Tube, Beaker Surge, Disappearing Water Trick, Hide/Reveal a Secret Message, Dissect a Brain, Critter Molding Lab, Rainbow in a Test Tube, The Incredible Water Ball/The Magic Spoon (hydrophobic sand), Atomic Fizz, Pop Crystal "Fireworks", Floating Coins, and Grow a Colorful Crystal Tree.

This was super fun. I bought this for myself as an adult but it’s definitely geared for parents to read the instructions and the kids to do the experiments. So it is a little hard not to spoil things if it’s for yourself lol. So if anyone was wondering if you as an adult should purchase this for yourself I say go for it. My friends got a kick out of the experiments when they were over, it was a great time. The instructions are super easy to follow along as well—you should buy this for your kids too.

Our family (two adults and a 10 year old) chose this advent calendar to do together. It was not advertised to us, we found it by searching Amazon, and we paid the regular price for it. I rarely write reviews, but this advent calendar earned one.

We are all absolutely thrilled with it thus far. I am SO impressed with the quality. My child and I do quite a few "science kit" things, because he enjoys them, but I usually find them lacking in one way or another. Compared to other kits we've done, on the whole, here are the things that I am really appreciating about this one:

- Instructions are clear, engaging, and well-written
- Supplies are good quality
- Supplies are all/nearly all provided, and in ample quantities (hooray for being able to repeat experiments or change variables!) *and* it notes if you need to save the extra for future experiments. So far, we've only needed to add water.
- Experiments are fast, fun, exciting, and fairly unique.
- Specimens are nice quality and interesting to learn about
- We are all equally excited to see what each day brings
-Cardboard packaging rather than extraneous plastic
-Excellent price point, high value compared to most similarly priced sets/calendars

Most of all, if you've done even one poorly designed home science experiment kit, you know how frustrating it is to have to scrounge up ingredients you don't normally use, or fuss with flimsy pieces that won't hold their shape, or figure out badly translated instructions, or do complicated chemistry setup steps/wait hours or days between steps that you don't know about until you are halfway through the instructions while disappointed children fuss about wanting to see their results. This is the opposite of that kit. Get one. You'll like it.

1. This kit included a variety of science experiments, some ideal for technically-minded teens and some for families to do together. As an autistic adult, I loved opening a window everyday and finding a task that involved real science.

2. The materials are sturdy and reusable! A few random pieces like cotton buds and a paper cup are disposable, but the test tubes, beakers, etc can be added to your collection of science equipment. I had extra chemicals left over and stored them safely for use later!

3. The instructions were fantastic. The included pamphlet provided step-by-step written guidelines and detailed photos to help you complete each day's science experiment as well as fun facts and scientific information to explain what is happening.

The quality of the experiments is high in this advent calendar. I’m a scientist, and always prepared to be disappointed in chemistry sets (so I’ve never purchased one for my 10 yr old son before - too many of the same experiments and mostly volcanoes.) This set actually teaches some science with experiments that are easy and safe enough for him to do all the steps himself and explain it to me from the booklet. The advent calendar format is cool for kids with limited attention because we get one experiment at a time, not an overwhelming array of experiments to do so he is excited to do each one. He happens to love rocks and already collects those. There are sufficient reagents to repeat the experiments to demonstrate to other family members. My only suggestion is that you need to find screw cap tubes, or little clean empty spice jars to save your extra chemicals and keep them dry, because they come in packets. Our favorite so far is the glowing zinc sulfide. My husband wishes for more dangerous and flammable experiments like the ones that made him fall in love with chemistry 40years ago, but I think this set manages to make things look cool without making me worry.

I bought this for my 7 year old because she loves rocks and this had other interactive stuff. Turns out she liked the experiments better. Unfortunately not all of them worked like they were supposed to even tho we followed the instructions exactly. She wasn't too impressed with a couple of the "rocks" because they were fossils and not pretty. They could have broken up the experiment days with rock days better. One week there are 4 experiments in a row and then the next week there are 4 rock days in a row. Of course you can always skip around and open a rock on an experiment day if you want. We did enjoy some of the experiments like the fake snow, jelly crystals, and pop rocks.

i couldn’t figure out what kind of advent calendar to get a 12 yo boy who isn’t in to typical advent calendar stuff. I put this in my cart for a month and sat on it because it was so expensive. I’m so glad I ended up purchasing it. He is having so much fun each morning there is a science experiment. He’s bummed on the days when he gets a rock/fossil instead of an experiment. I wish the experiments were every day. They do give plenty of extra to do the exp more than once and provide cups and beakers. Make sure you save all the cups you’ll need them multiple times

My only complaint is that one day the experiment had you microwaving something and the picture and words indicated you would do it in the thin plastic cup provided. This didn’t end well with the cup melting in the microwave and some serious frustration. Other than that it’s been fantastic!
