In this particular episode, Zeb goes a bit "rogue" to avenge his wife's death. Although I'm willing to suspend belief about several things, I find it hard to image an Arizona cowboy picking up the art of fencing so rapidly, and so astutely, as to mortally wound a much more experienced opponent. I was taking the plot seriously, until this closing episode intervened. If the resolution had been a little less far-fetched, I would have given it 4 stars.
Even though they know Zeb is on a mission of personal vendetta, the sheriff's department and a member of the FBI support and aid him. His adventures/misadventures in the crime underworld may assist them in bringing down the cartel. This is much like a diary as Zeb lies, wheels and deals and tries to outmaneuver others in the world of illegal drugs, forced prostitution, murder and mayhem. Along the way, the reader learns that even though Zeb is full of hatred and is still deeply mourning he has human weaknesses that he gives in to. It gets a bit soap opera ish at times.
The reader may be in for a surprise ending after following Zeb on a fairly predictable journey. The ending leaves the reader wondering what the future of Zeb Hanks, the small town sheriff, will be. The book was entertaining; however, I did not find it to be the suspenseful tale that I had hoped for.

Very sad and the off color swearing not to my taste. Ok for the males I guess, too far out from first book in series.
Improved fast and kept you interested. Very good story.
