I love NBA Basketball more than any pro sport. However, I tend to have more fun playing NFL or even NHL simulation video games. The NBA games have had a long history of not sufficiently conveying the talents and attributes of the players accurately. All the players were pretty much cut from the same animations and had virtually non distinct skill sets. Yeah, the old EA Sports NBA games would have the clownish "signature moves" of a handful of players but that is where the individualism would end. 2k Sports is attacking that problem and defeating it. I brought the Kobe Bryant covered 2k10 last year and thought it the pinnacle of NBA simulators. Very authentic game play and player representation, on a whole. Yeah I was kinda irked by the pretty uniform foot speed in that version. I also got irked by the inability to run a fast breaking player down from behind and swat their shots. Anybody who watches D Wade or LeBron ball knows that is one of their specialties. I would give 2k10 a 9.
But 2k11 is a WHOLE new ball game. The player skill sets and animations are SO authentic and on point I could swear the real NBA players have somehow gotten sucked into a TRON like video world and now play for my amusement. A player with foot speed blows by slower players. If you get sloppy with a fast break layup LeBron will run you down and send that shot to the trash heap. The game is fun. My only gripe is passing the ball can be a pain. Its like every CPU controlled player is Defensive Player of the year! If you pass they turn and steal the ball at least half the time. That can be a little unrealistic. However the game is still spot on outside of that.
And I would be totally out of line if I didnt mention MICHAEL JORDAN!!!!! HES BACK!!!! This is hands down the best MJ representation ever!!!! Jordan IS Jordan in this game. All his skill, all his swagger. Nothing was left out. The Jordan Challenges are so addictive in this game I want to do nothing else. I like how the Jordan from the earlier Bulls teams is a little different than the 90's Bulls teams Jordan. The 80's Jordan cant really make 3's but he is still unstoppable. The 90's Jordan is bald and will bury any wide open or quarter ending jump shot. Including 3's. And those 80's Bulls teams suck!!!!! You pretty much have to run every play through Jordan!!! That is what makes it AWESOME!!!!! The game knows Jordan is the marquee here and absolutely commands you to never let the ball leave his hands. Let Orlando Woolridge or an aged George Gervin shoot the ball?!?!?!? PLEASE!! The 90's teams are better and can be trusted with shots more. They also do a great job with Scottie Pippen. This is the first game where his unique skills are well represented. Usually he is rendered on "All 90's" teams as a long armed and ineffective player that is only good for open dunks. In this game he will steal anything not bolted down and harass any offensive player into a terrible game. Plus he routinely makes great shots. In other words, Pippen is Pippen too. Great Game!

Here are reasons why I will gives this game a higher rating than a lot of games that have been released over the past year... (keep in mind, this IS a sports game and you can't compare it to games like "Call of Duty: Black Ops" or "Halo:Reach":

Character Models: Every single character in this game has a distinct feature about them that sets them aside from other players. Every player has great amount of detail put into them, to the point that even from a far you can depict who is who without there names displayed. Each character has a certain style of playability, such as there shooting form, the different dunks they have, even the way they dribble and pass.

Soundtrack: Quite possibly the best sound track to ever be on any sports game to date. With new songs and old songs, you will find that every song is something that will fit perfectly into your gameplay.

Game Modes: The "My Player" mode takes you from playing pick-up games to winning the NBA Championship, if you have what it takes. The road to success is difficult, yet, very enjoyable and an experience that doesn't end as soon as it starts. There is a great variety of games you can play, such as "Slam-Dunk Contest", "3-Point Shootout" and you can even play a game of "21" to prove to your friends that its not your team thats beating them, but that its you who truly possesses the skills of a true baller.

Playability: The controls are very smooth and easy to pick up on. Any non-gamer or non-sportsatic can hop in and start playing with ease. The controls are simple, however, the game does require some skill if your trying to beat everything. Another great aspect of the game is bringing back Michael Jordan, along with a few other NBA Legends, such as Larry Bird, Majic Johnson, Gary Peyton, Dennis Rodman, Carl Malone, and other old school teams that have made there way to the top!

Overall: I think that this game will appeal to Sorts Fans and Non-sports Fans alike. It goes into great detail in every aspect of the game, has a wide variety of game modes to choose from, and is a great game to play with a buddy or by yourself. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!

NBA 2K11 with no doubts is the best basketball video game one will ever play. From the graphics to the presentation and everything that is in between (which is a lot) is absolutely incredible. Games modes are fantastic, huge variety makes this game very enjoyable and one will never be bored. In association mode you take a take, good or bad, and do all the necessary decisions, like trading, drafting, workouts, and much more, to make the team successful. My Player seems to be everyones favorite mode, as well it should be. In My Player you build your own player and play in draft games before you get drafted to a team. To get drafted in a respectful spot you'll have to play great in draft games. After you are drafted to a team the journey begins. Everything here is much harder, that is why when getting skill points, by playing games and doing drills, you should spend them very wisely. That would probably be the best advice to all new My Player players. And not to forget, the Jordan Challenge. In this mode you get to relive 10 of MJ's greatest moments. After completing all 10 games you get Michael Jordan as a rookie and assign him to any team and from there you get to rebuild him and make him the greatest player.. again. There are more modes to play but these are the main ones that will take long hours to complete. Also for those who like to challenge other players around the world can do this with the Online mode. You can play either just you and someone else, or play up to 10 people where each controls one player. Overall this game is just amazing. If i was to write a review of all the aspects of this games then it could end up very very long. If you are considering buying the game, then do it, you shouldn't have any doubts if you'll enjoy it or not. If you are new to the game then millions of videos can be found with tips about how to become better. Hope this helps to anyone.
