$60 only gets you in, VC is the name of the game

Yes, the game STILL is a pay to win kind of game. The dreaded VC system is still here and you are it's servant. I didn't pay extra for the Lebron Anniversary Edition which comes with the extra in game money, cards, etc. If you want to spend real money for fake money, go ahead. Your character will be able to jump to All Star levels in no time at all. It's just the name of the game and 2k knows people will buy it. 2k gameplay is still the same these past few years. I really think they spend more time and money paying for the trashy music than the actual game designers. Why? The audience in the stadium still looks like paper cutouts, interviews and closeups still have the crazy ghost eyes (Mass Effect), moonwalking defense with magnetic passes, etc. Graphics/gameplay wise, it's got a storyline if you care about that in a 2k game.. while looking relatively okay.. I mean relative because it's not as smooth or as nice looking as PS4 or Xbox versions since those are 60fps and more powerful hardware. The Switch port is all about portability. You can take this and play with your friends via Joycon controllers on the go. There is no way you're lugging your PS4, TV, power supply, controllers and start playing on the airplane. 720p on TV looks poor.. in hand on the console you can't tell so there's that. MyCareer, GM, Team, etc. all remain and if you're familiar with 2k, then it's just pick up and play. Because of these modes, there is a lot of "replayability" as in you can put many hours into easily. I prefer the pro controller vs the Joycons on the side, but they work fine if you're on the go. If you have multiple systems obviously get the PS4 or Xbox versions. A must have game? No way. Switch and Nintendo in general are not known for sports games so think before you spend $60 every year..

Even if you buy the physical copy, you will still have to download a mandatory 25.5GB (!!!) update to start the game at all. It turns out that the default storage on a Nintendo Switch is 26GB, but not really, because even if you were to delete (squints) ***all of the other content on your card***, it wouldn’t be enough space to download the update. Which was the whole reason I wanted a physical copy in the first place!

Playing video games in 2018 is horrible.

Every detail of this game is crafted in such a way to encourage players to spend as much money as possible on micro-transactions. The game is littered with glitches that make online play miserable and the developers ignore any issues with the game as long as it does not interfere with players buying VC. The switch version has all the same problems but worse making it one of the most embarrassing cash grabs of a franchise I have ever seen.

The negative reviews on this game seem inaccurate. My 11 year old son & I love this game not only at home playing together but when he travels in the car he plays it non-stop. Yes, you do need a micro-sd card ($25-28) but that's because the NBA2K platform uses a lot of memory for this, Xbox or PS4. It is a terrific buy if your kid has a Switch and wants NBA.

Pros:
- Really addicting Storyline in the MyCareer mode. Reels you in and your scrambling wanting more.
- Lots if Customization for your MyCareer player.
- Game feels and looks amazing on the Switch.

Cons:
- Storyline is too short in my opinion. I felt like getting into the NBA was only half of it and it ends there. Becomes extremely repetitive after that.
- All the customizations for you MyCareer cost in-game currency which you have to make a decision (for those who don’t want to spend extra money) to level up your characters skills or customize him.
- Not sure if others experienced this, it was uncommon but the game would just freeze/crash on me during a game. My Nintendo Switch is brand new and it’s yet to do it to the other two games I own.

Overall game is ok to decent. I enjoyed it very much up to the point where I felt like getting into the NBA was only the beginning and the storyline pretty much abandons you there. So glad I didn’t spend any real currency upgrading my character even though it was very tempting.

I’ve been playing this series for years. I started with ESPN basketball in 2003 and it’s been a fun ride. 2k has always been able to deliver a fun, fast, and somewhat accurate version of NBA basketball. This version is no different. It’s very easy to lose hours in Mycareer or Mygm. The concessions made to get this running in the switch are pretty minor (720p, 30 FPS, and some low quality textures in the background). Now the biggest negative of the game is the VC micro transactions conundrum. As an RPG fan I’d rip a game for dropping as little XP as you get here (in the form of VC). You’ll need to grind for a long time or pony up extra cash to make your Mycareer player worth a darn. This is incredibly frustrating for cheapskates like myself.
One of the other issues I have is the inablilty to switch online modes over to offline and vice versa. This is normally to a a big deal for this game but this is something that needs to be addressed for this franchise on a portable system. It is what it is.

I bought this for switch due to the fact that I wanted a portable sports game. My biggest apprehension was how the graphics would turn out. Happy to report that the visuals are fantastic (especially on the portable switch). My only issue is the amount of time it took to download the game and update to the switch. That is minor, however, once you get into the gameplay.

If you're interested in watching a 7-8 hour basketball movie with like 2 minutes of gameplay (impossible gameplay) in between then this is the game for you. Seriously, why would the makers add so many annoying and endless cut scenes? I feel like they thought this was a movie and not a video game. In the brief moments you do get the chance to play your player is so bad he can't do anything.
