I purchased this adapter to charge my electric vehicle. Works great and is a high quality product. My charger (EVSE) has an L6-30 plug and is capable of 25 amps, but my car can only pull 14 amps, so I am able to use the 20 amp circuit with an L6-20 connector. This product met my needs perfectly.
I've purchased 12 of these over the years to convert our 30A PDU (APC 8841) into a 20A breaker box in our data center. I need the 30A 8841 PDUs for their ports, but only need 20A circuits for our racks. This thing is rock solid, never had a single issue in these mission critical environments.
I messed up and ordered the wrong power circuit. This temporary fix was the perfect solution to all me to temporarily use the circuit until we could get the wiring upgraded! The price was great too!
This device allows one to plug a higher amp device into a lower amp outlet, not only is this against code but it is a complete hazard. It is ok to go the opposite direction bit not to a higher amp load. NEWER plug a device with a 30A plug into a 20 A outlet! Max draw on a 20A outlet is 16A continuous. There is a reason your device has a 30A plug. This is irresponsible to make such a product. In doubt? Just read up on the NEC for NEMA plugs and outlets.
